What good/great movies have you watched lately, new or old?

I'll start.

Yesterday, I went to the theater and saw "Annabelle Comes Home". Verrrry suspenseful throughout, and often made me jump. Loved it!

Today, I saw "Rocky" on TV, my second time since it came out, 39 years ago. I had it DVR'd, so I could (thankfully) fast forward through the fight.
Damn, he was a handsome man!

Has anyone else seen something great recently?

I have the tubi app that I used to stream through my laptop from my phone.
Ended up giving it to my Granddaughter Kasey because she loved it.
The last movie I watched was a selection from tubi.
Chapter 27.
It's based on the life of Mark David Chapman, the title being a yet unwritten chapter in Catcher In The Rye.
It was pretty creepy, the actor did a fabulous job.
I was/am a huge Lennon fan.
I still watch it on my phone and am going to buy an iPad soon.

Wow, Sass, just as I was reading your post above and looking up Chapter 27, a segment about Ringo and the Beatles came on CBS Sunday Morning!

A friend of mine would call that a "God wink".

I saw RocketMan, the Elton John Bio. It was pretty good.

But the previews to Yesterday made it look great. I hope to see it sometime this month.

Waait until iyou see who played chapman and what it took to look like that. Then find out what it took for him to lose weight after the movie.

I love classic Elton John tunes, but not so much the movie. Kinda weird...

Bohemian Rhapsody Was the last good movie I watched. I love me some good old Freddy Mercury chunes! ?

Rocketman was weird the way they used songs from later in his career to help explain early stuff that happened in his life / career. I agree on liking his early stuff best. Going to see him for first time later this summer so I had to see the movie in hopes of getting more pumped up. Wife and her friend came up with the idea. We good hubbys said okay. LOL

HBO premiered Bohemian Rhapsody so I finally got to see that. It was good but they did not include the Live Aid performance of Bohemian Rhapsody. I was disappointed. It was the best performance of Freddies career. IMHO.
 
Watched "Wonder" with Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson, DVR'd from TV.

Great chick flick.

'This Must Be The Place'

If you enjoy movies that hold your hand and explains every bit of plot to you, then don't watch it. It is a qwerky comedy and you will laugh your butt off.

Hmmm, I do like Sean Penn as an actor and I LOVE Frances McDormand.

I first saw "The Innocents" with Deborah Kerr shortly after it came out in 1961. It scared the beejeesus out of my brother and me as kids.

Just watched it again last night. Scared the beejeesus out of me and my friend as seniors!

One of the very best scary movies ever. No blood or gore, just dread.

Based on Henry James' "Turn of the Screw".

Highly recommend!

"Yesterday" ....a wild concept but once you swallow that it's a good movie. I enjoyed it more than Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody.
 
I do think all three, Yesterday, RocketMan and Bohemian Rhapsody are good. My mistake for Bohemian Rhapsody is I did not see it in a theater. Plus as I mentioned I wish they had shown the Bohemian Rhapsody performance at Live Aid. I was so looking forward to it but they didn't include that.

All the Beatles music in Yesterday hooked me. Loved it.
 
I watched this a few weeks ago, so I'm not even sure it's still out there. And I don't remember where I watched it :blush:.

Taking Home Chance - I loved it...major tear jerker though.

Seabiscuit

It's about a young male jockey who has a way with horses and brings back an abused, almost broken race horse.
Set during the Depression...very good

I mentioned Ride Like A Girl earlier.
It's about a very young female jockey trying to break into a predominantly male profession.
It's a more contemporary setting.

I like horsey movies. Maybe that's why Heartland is one of my favorite series.
 
Not really a movie, but a series on Hulu...Little Fires Everywhere
Really good, I mentioned the book in What are you Reading.
Loving it so far, it's following the book pretty closely. I'll see how the the rest goes.

Just watched it today. I liked it, too, Doc - REALLY entertaining! Cool premise for a movie.

It was wonderful hearing so many of the Beatles' songs, especially the beautiful ballads.

Wish they'd managed to squeeze in "Norwegian Wood".

Supporting cast was excellent, too.

I agree Lee. I DVR'd it and have watched it a couple more times mainly for the music. Love it.

Sass you have to watch My Cousin Vinny. Entertaining to say the least. I watched it recently for the umteenth time. A classic. :D
