Saturday 15 October dinner

Saturday (last night) we enjoyed another drop-dead fabulous authentic Szechuan Chinese dinner at Peter Chang's Chinese Grill in Charlottesville, VA, after watching the Met's HD live simulcast of the opera "Anna Bolena" at the historic Paramount Theatre.

For those of you who may not have heard of him - Peter Chang has been written up all over the place as an infamous & elusive Szechuan chef from China who's worked in restaurants all over the place & now has two places of his own - one in Charlottesville, VA, & the other in Georgia. People have driven hours & many many miles to dine on his dishes - many of which are the same dishes he cooked as an Executive Chef in China. (Google him - he's amazing!)

We started with "Deep-Fried Assorted Mushrooms" & "Dry Fried Eggplant" - both dishes that we've enjoyed a number of times before, & the combination of perfect frying & tongue-numbing Szechuan peppercorns is priceless. We followed that with the "Spicy Fragrant Duck" & the "Seafood Tofu Hot Pot" - both FABULOUS!!! Can't wait to enjoy the leftovers for lunch!

While I'm sure glad Mr. Chang's restaurant is only about 90 minutes to 2 hours away from us (depending on traffic), I definitely wish he were even closer.

I wish I had some of Peeps bread for my stew.

Yummy!

Chicken and dumplings in white wine, maybe.

I have two recipes for the dumplings, one has buttermilk & walnuts, & the other is for spinach dumplings.

Didn't get to make the dish. Spent the weekend in the ER & overnight in the hospital - for my foot/toe. Here are the dumpling ideas I wanted to experiment with:
