Rote Grütze

We are resuming our weekly Sunday meals with our friend‘s Ann and Andy. This Sunday we are doing German so this afternoon my wife experimented with a German dessert we had when we lived in Germany, Rote grütze. It is a mixture of four different berries, a fruit juice, sugar, and corn starch, topped with half and half. We had one for a test and it is quite good.

We were friends since living in Germany so we try to,do one German meal a year together. We do French farmhouse meals, too. That will be soon.

We had this dessert for the first time when we holidayed in Schleswig Holstein. A friend’s mother made it for us.

Here is the one my wife made for tomorrow. These berries are from California. When our local berries are on it will be fabulous.
