This is probably a naive question, but why are the excess potatoes only slated for the Northwest food pantries? There are poor people all over the country. I'm sure the answer is "money for transportation", but geez!

I know they ship all over the country …. DYK Bill Gates is buying farm land all over WA and is the biggest potato producer, supplying all McDonald’s their French fries.
