When I was up north, I had access to gnocchi all the time. Down here, it's beginning to look like I'd have to make it myself. I would have served it with gnocchi if I had it. Thought of potatoes, but the sauce was simply screaming for the polenta. What would you have used, Cooksie?
It's been a while since I've cooked this, but the first time we probably just had it in a shallow bowl with a baguette (it's got vegetables in there ). And I think we had it once with roasted potatoes, but I really, really like the gnocchi idea. I haven't made coq au vin since I began making gnocchi though. It looks great with polenta too. IMO, just about anything with a red wine sauce is good on polenta.
