Sweet, tender, better than fried clams!!!

Turner's is a seafood restaurant in Melrose, MA. Highly rated. Deservedly so.

I am not much of a seafood fan (I'd rather eat chicken for 3 meals a day), but I met a friend for drinks and appetizers tonight at a seafood spot we'd never been to before, that people rave about.

With good reason.

The clam chowder was very good - thick and creamy, but not as good as Union Oyster House in Boston or Capt'n Parker's Pub on Cape Cod.

The tuna sashimi was excellent and the portions of that were great, served on crisp fried wonton with crunchy salad, and sauces.

But the fried oysters were perfect!! Small, sweet, crispy, and served with both bleu cheese sauce (!) and tartar sauce for dipping!

Wish I'd had my camera!

This is the kind of appetizer meal that you really don't want to mess with at home - it's too expensive and touchy and a PIA to make.

Not cheap. Two cups of chowder, 2 appetizers and our drinks cost the two of us $80

Nice for a treat. But I'm happy with sliders or platter of nachos.

I'm with you. Lee - I love fried oysters. This area of the Pacific Coast of Mexico is actually known for its oysters ("Bucerias" means "place of the diver"). But they are BIG, and when offered for sale in the market, they sit in the hot sun, just baking away and growing who-knows-what bacteria. I pass. But, I used to love living in the NW and getting the tiny, sweet Olympia oysters. Oh yum - I'm going to be there next month, so I'll be sure to get some. There is an "R" in April - right?
