Meta tags

A couple days ago, we had a brief discussion in a sort-of related thread about using tags. I just realized that that thread was in the Back Room. While it's open to anyone who wants to join, not everyone chooses to enter the Back Room. So I'm bringing this out into the general forum for everyone.

One way to get more 'hits' one the search engines is to use 'meta tags'. More hits means more folks finding us, and hopefully liking what they see, and staying around for a while.

Making tags is easy, especially for the original poster. Right below the box where you type your post, there is a section called (SURPRISE!) "Tags". You can put up to 5 key words in there to help the search engines find your post. This especially useful with recipes and food questions.

For example, if you make turkey nachos you could put in turkey, nacho, ground turkey, Mexican food, turkey nacho, appetizer.

Anyone can add 2 tags, but the original poster can put in 5.

If we all try to remember to put in tags when we create a thread, I think it will help more of the search engines to find us. If you are reading or responding to a thread that doesn't have any tags, (you can tell by the little blue price-tag-looking-thing in the index) feel free to add some.

I've been trying to add tags to anything that I come across in Today's Posts, but if we all try to do this, we may find our membership growing!

P.S. Once a post is posted, CAN you add tags? I am not seeing how.

At the bottom of the thread, it will say Tags in the right hand corner. Across from that, it will say edit tags. Click on that and it will let you add tags - up to 25 if you are a mod.

Yes! Right below the "Post Reply" button and before the "Quick Reply" box is the "tag" section. To the right is 'edit tags'. Click and you're in!
 
I am busy tagging the OAMC forum, SS. Thanks for nudging us. If everyone will just pick a forum and start tagging some threads, we'll get more traffic and have more fun!
 
I will work on "Appetizers" when I can. My favorite category.

Do you know that restaurants are changing their menus to accomodate those of us who like to graze? More small plates, appetizers, tapas ... in addition to the large meals.

I'm not sure about that, FM. Perhaps that's what some restaurants are calling it now.

My friends and I just pick a couple of things to share from the Appetizers section of menus.

Everyone else please join in and try to remember to create a few tags for each new thread you start & posts where you add to an existing thread and see where a tag would apply. It will pay off big time down the road.
 
Adding tags is kind of fun. You can add any tag you want. I've been trying to think of what someone might type into google if they were looking for whatever is in that thread. If you take a few minutes to look at some threads that are already tagged, you'll get the idea. You can be creative, too. (I can't wait for BT to start tagging stuff! LOL)

Don't forget about "playing with it", "get done at the same time" and "Aerosol or liquid" :yum:........:blush:

I have been adding tags where ever I can. Since people have been adding tags have we been getting more traffic?
 
We were getting more traffic, but so much of it was spammers that I can't tell how much of it was because of our tags. I guess the best gauge for how good we do with the tags will be how many new members we attract because of hits by the search engines.
