Looking for pork loin info

I recommend an oven thermometer for all pork as well as an instant read for chicken. You can get both for about $20 and you don't need the best of the best by any means. I have several both expensive and inexpensive which show no more than a degree or two difference in their readings. In most cases even 5 degrees too low or too high won't make much of a difference really.

Just finished cutting it up and getting a roast going in the oven.
That's a lotta meat for 15 bucks.

Awesome Chow! That's exactly how I do mine. Great isn't it.

I was in Publix a few months ago looking at these whole loins on sale. I grabbed one, and as I was putting it in my buggy, two ladies behind me asked “What is that”.

So, I took them over to the cut meat and showed them the Loin Chops, cut into 4 pieces per pack, and going for 5.99 per pound.

I then told them that this huge log of meat, that is going for 1.89 per pound, is the same thing just not cut. All you need do is cut your own, to whatever thickness you like, then freeze for later and you save over 4 dollars per pound.

They bought 2 loins!

good job!!

I've never cut it into chops as that seems to be a waste to me as if you don't eat it all it makes great sandwiches also.

You cook the WHOLE thing? :w00t:

I've seen competition smokers and people with crowds of 20 or more do a whole loin, but there is NO WAY I (and DW) could ever get through 9+ pounds of Pork Loin before it went bad!

No I cut them in to a couple of pieces depending on the size. I just don't cut them into steak cuts. Tonight we did one that was about 6.5 lbs and it is gone as well as 10 ears of sweet corn and 10 potatoes mashed. I had 5 more people show up I didn't expect which is usual around here.
