Keltin's "Grilled" Meatloaf

I LOVE oak, especially on chicken! We do a big open pit cook with a huge grate over an oak fire regularly. The smell is incredible, and it's fun playing with the fire! :yum:

I'm thinking about ordering this.

let me check it out b4 u order it, i think thats a guy i know on one of my bbq forums... if not i post an request over there and see if anybody has cherry wood for you locally or at least in AL

keltin .. that guy has good stuff ...
i have ordered from him before ..

if you have a do it best hardware store around you, you can get a 10lb of chunks for under $9...if they dont have it in the store, you can order online and get it shipped to your local store for free

I just grab logs from my firewood pile. I usually get oak, cherry, birch and apple. (quantities in that order) I cut the logs in half then just split them to mini logs to fit the SFB.

If anyone wants oak, come get it!

We've got TOOOOOO MANY trees, pooping stupid leaves everywhere every year...
You cut it you can take it!

you are the lucky one in the bunch.lol

most of use can get certains kinds of woods but not other kinds... i can usually get apple, maple, oak, cherry but it is near impossible to get walnut or pecan because it simply doesnt grow here..lol

We get walnut too but I'm not fond of the aroma, espescially when woodworking with it. There's maybe 3-4 walnut trees around my yard, you can always tell because they are the last to get any leaves in the spring and the first to lose them in the fall with only the fruit left. Looks like Christmas ornaments.

My favorite wood is Mesquite. Even after I grill something on the Weber I'll throw on a couple Mesquite chunks just for the aroma. I love that stuff.

I get Cherry, Apple and Peach pretty regularly from friends and fam. But there are a couple places in town that carry all kinds of stuff. I have some Apricot and Mulberry right now. They also carry stuff like pecan, alder, persimmon, oak, walnut, sassafrass, orange, lemon, etc.

The problem is the place is something like 40 minutes away down a street that I think has a 2 stop light per block quota. I literally dread driving on that road. When I do head down there I stock up. Last time I got the last bag of Apple and they didn't have any cherry left so I grabbed the Appricot. They sell in chunks, chips and even small logs.

Grilled meatloaf again! Used Cherry and Oak wood this time. This one is a 4lb loaf. Wonderful flavor, and sandwiches that were to die for. As always, use you favorite meatloaf recipe and then free-form the loaf. Place the loaf on the grill and use indirect heat. Cook for 1.5 hours+ until internal temp is 165. Glaze if desired.

STOP! You've inspired me already. Afterall, how can you beat a meatloaf sammie? Unless it is leftover turkey with stuffing and cranberry sauce between 2 slices of rye bread.
