whats you opinions on peaches?

....yes, thats about $50 for 6 peaches.

their about the size of a large grapefruit, and perfect with no blemishes

michigan used to be the 3rd largest producer of peaches, in about 1910 or so, frost killed a bunch and ruined the crop--farmers have been reluctant to grow them as a cash crop since.

I know I can grow them , I just want to know what varities people prefer.

Fresh to eat straight, I prefer a Freestone peach, but if cooking, I like the Clingstone as it holds up to the cooking process a bit better.

I like the big sweet ones.:whistling: Actually, try contacting your county extension office and see if they can recommend varieties that will do well in your area. I'm sure they will be able to help you. What grows well in Ohio may not do well in your area, and vice versa.

You wanna know how I feel about peaches? This is how I feel about peaches!

Movin' to the country gonna eat a lot of peaches
I'm movin' to the country I'm gonna eat me a lot of peaches
I'm movin' to the country I'm gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin' to the country I'm gonna eat a lot of peaches
Peaches come from a can they were put there by a man
In a factory downtown
If I had my little way I'd eat peaches everyday
Sun soakin bulges in the shade

Movin' to the country I'm gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin' to the country I'm gonna eat a lot of peaches
I'm movin to the country gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin' to the country gonna eat a lot of peaches

I took a little nap where the roots all twist
Squished a rotten peach in my fist
And dreamed about you woman
I poked my finger down inside makin' a little room for a ant to hide
Nature's candy in my hand or can or a pie

Millions of peaches peaches for me
Millions of peaches peaches for free
Millions of peaches peaches for me
Millions of peaches peaches for free

Look out

Millions of peaches peaches for me

Shepherd... I'm curious as to what Japan did with them?

I'm no peach expert, but was curious about your experience in Japan.

yes yes..but what kind do YOU like?

As long as it is ripe and juicy, I haven't met a peach that I haven't liked. I love nectarines as well. I will happily eat any of the varietals. Sorry, I don't discriminate amongst these fantastic fruits.

When one bakes with fruit, S. Shepherd, one is more concerned about sweetness and ripeness. One wants the best fruit one can find. I have a few extra special peach recipes that I love to make when the fruit is especially wonderful. I hate when they are dry, mealy and tasteless; it is so disappointing. So, that is how I judge them. I don't care if they are free stone or cling either. I just want to be able to bite into one and have the sweet juice dribble down my chin.

One must also consider the chemistry of heat and microscopic break down of cellular tissue over prolonged cooking. Saying I love it juicy is ludicrous to the serious baker.

It’s like saying I want good beef. Ok, get a Filet for fast grilling, get a rump for braising. Consider your flesh when you cook.

God forbid you make the horrid mistake of braising a Filet or grilling a rump!

She was a levelheaded dancer on the road to alcohol,
I was just a soldier on my way to Montreal.
Well, she pressed her chest against me about the time the jukebox broke.
She gave me a peck on the back of the neck, and these are the words she spoke.

Blow up your TV, throw away your paper, go to the country, build you a home.
Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches, try and find Jesus on your own
.

I sat there at the table, and I acted real naive.
Cause I knew that topless lady, she had something up her sleeve.
She danced around the room awhile and she did the hoochy coo.
Yeah, singing a song all night long, telling me what to do.

Blow up your TV, throw away your paper, go to the country, build you a home.
Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches, try and find Jesus on your own
.

Well, I was young and hungry, and about to leave that place.
Just as I was going. she looked me in the face.
I said "You must know the answer," she said "No, but I'll give it a try."
To this day we've been living our way, here is the reason why.

We blew up your TV, threw away your paper, went to the country, build us a home.
Had a lot of children, fed 'em on peaches, they all found Jesus on their own.

Gotta love peaches!

Are peach trees self polintating or do you need to plant two of them?

donut peaches are my favourites.

their sweetness is unreal!

i know that they're grown upstate n.y., so they might survive in your climate s.s.

BT, a have never met a ripe, juicy peach or nectarine for that matter that I didn't like. They are among my favorites! When in season and perfect, there is nothing better in my humble opinion.

ok i opened up this thread and had to do a double take at the 1st picture. it looks like little yellow butts in a bunch of boxes. sorry, just had to share!
