Back when I was growing up...we always called it "Decoration Day"

Never heard of calling the holiday "Memorial Day" till we moved to N.J.

Never heard of calling the holiday "Memorial Day" till we moved to N.J.

I always knew it as Decoration Day, and it was always tradition to decorate the graves of relatives who served in the military. As small children we would run and play in the cemetery, not fully understanding why we were there until I put on a uniform at age 19. I say thanks to all my brothers and sisters who have proudly worn the uniforms of our military, and particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Without them we would not be the great nation that we are today.
