Friday Dinner - 21 August - What's on?

This is my last Friday off ....summer officially ends on Monday for me. Lou and I are both home today; and once again, it's about 150 degrees in the house.

I'd like to follow typical Friday tradition by having hors' deouvres cheeses, breads, and pretzels (yes, he brought them back with him yesterday).

Does anyone else have the energy to cook tonight? What are you making?

It's date night for me and DW. Longtime tradition that started when the kids were little, and I wanted her to have at least one meal each week where there was no arguing, whining or runny noses. The baby is now 23, and we still continue the tradition. Sorry your kitchen is so hot.

BTW, today I will be baking 5 dozen cinnamon rolls for the church bake sale. We are also out of sandwich rolls and Italian bread. Better get busy.

Another cold rainy day. :(
I feel like making some sort of casserole, then there will be enough leftovers to last the weekend when I don't get much time to cook.

I don't feel like cooking or eating a thing. Son is working and I have no idea yet what DH's plans are.
The temp cooled down today but the humidity is high and we've been having thunderstorms, so I probably can't grill.
I guess I need some inspiration.

I'm making Ol-Blue's very cherry pork chops, like I had a couple weeks ago. I might pan fry them so I can get the makings of a gravy and serve that over rice or potatoes. Or I might grill them...

i'll probably be grilling tonight.

surely, dw willl have chicken ready, and i have a couple beautiful veal chops that i'll brown on the grill, then finish in the crock pot with a load of fresh tomatoes and garlic that i brought in from the garden last night.

if i catch the ground hog that's been raiding my garden every day (little f^cker), we'll be eating him tomorrow. he's stolen a dozen peppers and at least 4 huge big boy tomatoes in the past two weeks. each of the tomatoes were 1 lb. + before being nibbled on.

anyone have a good recipe for ground hog?

beans are cooking in the crockpot... instead of bacon, i am using leftover ribs for the smoke and meat portion of it..

I picked up some dirt cheap porterhouse steaks on sale yesterday so I guess I'll be grilling those this evening. Haven't had those in a long while.
This week has been beef week for the Foo'D family. Way too much red meat. Not good.

I am with Barb. Last night's sfiha did not agree with me. I think I shall take it easy today--maybe some chicken soup.

I'm "working" today.... and Paul will be hiking for the next nine days...
I won't need to make dinner for a very long time... :) :)

My cousin is coming over this weekend and I get to make him
and his family (wife and three girls) a good breakfast.

After that I'll be living on soup from a can and poached eggs yummy stuff
I feel guilty feeding Mr. Hubby Bear

They are done! 5 dozen cinnamon rolls for the bake sale.

Now it's off to the store for 25# of flour so I can get started on the bread I need to make today. Pics to follow.

I just opened the third 1# brick of yeast today. I've been a baking machine this year. :yum:

What you need is quart of my Italian Wedding Soup. It's basically chicken soup, which is Jewish penicillin. I'll drop it off on my way to Giant Eagle in a few minutes.

Making bread,

And trying to figure out what to do with the chain and other 'tailings' from a tenderloin other than a Philly or tips.

Stir fry in good for those pieces. I save mine to use later in quick stir fry dishes or panini sandwiches. I've also smoked them then used them in soups or beans.

Joe, you're a true friend!! Thank you so much!! :flowers:

Wow, he dropped off the Italian Wedding Soup, some freezer pickles and a couple cinnamon rolls. (and they're both mine.) I'm in heaven now. lol

I haven't had anything like this since I was a little girl and my late grandma made them but they had ooygooy delicious cherry stuff on top of them.

We're starting the evening with mojitos..dont know if he's putting watermelon in them or not..

Italian plums stuffed with mascarpone and wrapped in salami
Figs topped with herbed goat cheese and amaretti cookie pieces
Sliced Mango
Grilled Italian sausage
Fresh mozzarella with basil
Olive Salad
Tomato Bruschetta
Pretzels

Pork loin is done and stuffed with Parmesan cheese, sautéed onions, roasted red bell pepper, olives, capers, pimentos, garlic and panko bread crumbs. Spices are salt, pepper, basil, oregano, paprika, thyme, garlic, butter, orginial bacon salt, and rosemary. It was basted every thirty minutes with extra virgin olive oil with fresh basil, oregano and rosemary. It smells fantastic at this point. The potatoes are on, gravy is made and peas are cooking. The gravy is shallots, garlic in butter and olive oil then beef broth, beef demi glaze as well as some red wine. It was reduced by half, strained then a bit of 1 tablespoon of corn starch and cold beef broth added to it as a thickener. Brought back to a boil then turned down and a bit more salt and pepper added. I now have a nice thick gravy with a good taste for the potatoes and pork.

DD and SIL will be here and we're meeting DD's in laws at the Hiawatha Bar for fish fry and beer.
