anyone else have a disaster green bean casserole with French's Onion Rings this year?

ours had a strange chemical smell - inedible - had to toss the whole thing!

definitely something in/of/on the onion rings....

Are we talking about French's French Fried Onions ?

I stopped using them about a year ago, because of two-in-a-row Ammonia smell...

I guess if they aren't packaged properly, or are old/beyond sell by.. that the oil they were fried in can cause a rancid smell ( and taste).
Yuck.

... Don't know about 'rings' ---- It must be something different

.and it turns out, it was 2014 when I stopped using the product... time flies !

You know Aldi has deep fried onions just like French's, Chef's Cupboard brand.

Not sure if they're actually French's just packed under a different name or not.

We started making our own fried onion straws, much better than the canned ones. Gave up green bean casserole for my summer squash casserole.

Furthermore, when these were made under the Durkee brand, there was never a problem with taste.
Used to buy them all the time and would even pop a few straight out of the can.

lest I forget, again . . a follow up

took them back to the store - Customer Service had no issues - actually they explained a whole bunch of people returned the stuff for the same reason.

in doing a little surfing, I found the chemical/stinky/plastic-y/rancid/etc smell issues dates back to 2010. apparently French's (parent McCormick) just doesn't care.
