How would you cook a cottage ham?? I remember my mom just boiling it for like an hour or so. I don't know if she cooked it with anything else. I picked one up because I remembered how good it was. Now what do I do? lol

Any takers?

LOL I think thats the one I bought when I was in my very young 20's and for some reason I thought you just had to bake it an hour or so before it was done.....boy was I wrong! lol I think I remember just giving up on it :D

Hope someone can help....

Ummmm, Chef Google here:

SPICY CROCKPOT COTTAGE HAM (PORK BUTT)
2 to 2 1/2 lb. smoked boneless pork shoulder butt
2 c. water
6 whole cloves
4 whole peppercorns
1 stalk celery, cut up
1 carrot, peeled and sliced
Put all ingredients in crockpot. Cover and cook on LOW heat 6 to 8 hours or HIGH 3 to 4 hours. Drain and serve.

That's funny Dee. I don't think I've had one in over 15 years. It just brought back memories of my mom making it...so I bought it. lol

Thank you Buzz, Chef Google! That sounds pretty good. I'm going to try it.

oh cottage ham is the same as the butt? I was thinking it was like a picnic ham......oh Im so confused!!! Google here I come!!! ;)

I can't believe a Pollock doesn't know what to do with a cottage ham. Just drop it off at the Slovenian guy's house and he'll take care of it. he might even give you a slice if any is left.

You need to boil or steam it to get the brine out of the meat. Mom used to simmer the ham then make a boiled dinner by adding chopped cabbage, chopped carrots and chopped turnips. Left over broth can be used as stock. Chill overnight then skim off fat in the morning.

Funny!! LOL I never watched my mom when she cooked it. I just remember it was good but none of my brothers liked it. lol I do think she used carrots but not the cabbage.
Like I said I haven't had it in like 15 years and I have CRS............yeah, right I'll drop it over your house........maybe after "I" cook it. hahaha
