Cookware Questions

I am completely blown away!!! That is the most perfect kitchen I have ever seen! Thank you for sharing the pics. But please, tell us about it. I mean, there's no way that kitchen came with the house! And it's huge! Did you combine 2 rooms? Did you buy out a restaurant? I would love to hear all the details.

Oh you are a glutton for punishment aren't you FM!

Well, it's been many years of collecting. I had a small Italian restaurant in the 80s, and started my collection then, with the Hobart Mixer. Whenever we had some good fortune, I'd pick up a major piece. Only thing not showing in those pictures is the Groen Combi Oven I bought about 20 years ago, but it still works great. That's where I make my breads.

We live in an old stone farmhouse. The kitchen is in the wood "summer kitchen" that was originally detached from the house. When we purchased the property, there was a porch roof connecting the two. We originally refinished the summer kitchen as a playroom for my son, but he hardly ever used it. At some point, my wife and I agreed that we needed more room than the original kitchen and the only place that fit was converting the summer kitchen. She still has the other kitchen, but there's no stove there, just my oven and the dishwasher. Well, counter and sink too. Main fridge as well. That's our breakfast area, with the coffee pot, micro wave, etc.

The pots were a 5 year collection, with the last bit purchased used on eBay. The range was a major purchase at the time of the renovation. It's a Jade range. For those of you not familiar, it's so well made, I can stand on the oven doors when they're open, and I'm no feather. Bought the salamander several years later. The tribute to my mother-in-law has been there since the renovation....

The PacoJet was a gift from my wife and son about 5 years ago.... Two other things not showing... I upgraded my proofing rack to one that's heated, with a glass door, and I bought a ThermoMix just before Christmas.

I don't smoke, I don't drink more than a rare glass of wine. My kitchen is my addiction, but I do use it :)

Ahhh, that makes sense. I noticed the gorgeous exposed beams and they looked original. What a pleasure it must be to cook in there. I've never seen a Jade range before but it's a thing of beauty! And a heated proofing rack - fantastic! (Now I have to look up what a PacoJet is.) Thanks again for sharing your fantastic kitchen with us.

In the midst of all, is the doggy door, partially hidden, by the rolling rack. There's no appliance a cook enjoys more than a dog with a big tongue. It takes all the hard work out of clean up. Having a place to stretch out and really crank some food make your's the logical choice for all parties. Combi Ovens are amazing with their ability to be a steamer, convection oven, combination of moist and dry heat and and excellent way to keep oven roasted meats moist and plump and make a fabulous Artisan breads. I am really glad for you have such a great "tool" room to tinker in when you need to get away. One heck of a man cave!

:respect:Ok, I know now that I am a piker in comparison!

But one thing is sure. After I show them these pictures, no one will ever say I have ALL the neat toys!

Man, how I would love to live in an old stone farmhouse! I would fill it so full of neat working vintage stuff it would make your head spin!

I buy mine mostly for purpose, but these days I also take into consideration where it comes from. Nothing from China that is for sure. I like Lodge for my CI though. Got Chicago Cutlery and a lot of kitchen utensils when DW worked for World Kitchen but luckily all that was before they switched a lot of stuff to China.
