I'm not sure about the dimensions of your fork. Mine is perfect for the little tins of sardines. I have thought of seeking a server, which simply holds a tin so that it is not unsightly on the table. Here is a picture of one I saw on ebay. Again, I find them amusing...cute, etc. My forks work great in the tins lifting out my little sardine! The coffee cup is for size comparison, but the servers are typically big enough to hold the tin. They have been around for about 200 years....I am not sure what they did with sardines prior to when they were sold in tins. Fresh....and bigger....maybe? But my forks were designed for tins.I eat sardines right out of the can. I’d like to know how it was done in olden days as the sardine fork looks to large for small can use. I’m wondering if they are talking about the larger pilchards?
