Old Now But Once New

Amazing what a rambling mind can come up with on occasion! :yum:

For some reason, I was thinking what is the oldest thing I have that I actually bought new. That is, what item did I purchase new from a store long ago and still have to this day.

At first, I was going to say the first 2 CDs I ever bought back in 1990.

Then it occurred to me it's actually the comic books I first bought with my allowance when I was 12 or 13 years old. I still have all those comics that I collected over the years. Three or four hundred, all bagged, backed, and boxed. Not sure what I'll ever do with them.

What about you? What is the oldest item that you personally bought new years ago and still have.

Not an antique that you bought at an estate sale, nor a used item you got from someone, etc, but an item that was once new at the store that you went in and bought, and still have to this day.

So, what have you got that you've been storing or hanging on to all these years?

It was a record...Rick Springfield's "Tao." I think I was in the 5th grade or so. It was quickly followed by tickets to his Cathode Ray Tour. It was my very first concert and I still have the stubs! I bought both with allowance I had saved up from working in my parents movie rental business/tv repair shop. I bought it in the TG&Y that was right down the sidewalk from the shop. The record cost 3 bucks and the concert was 15. :)

can it be stuff your parents' bought for you?

because i still have my backpack and some camping gear from when i was a kid, circa 1975.

for stuff i bought, i'd have to say fishing lures from around 1972 or thereabouts.

how about something you didn't buy, lol. i still have change from a change jar that i started collecting when i first got a paper route in the mid 70's. i've been saving my change ever since then, occasionally dipping in to it for a laundromat or parking meters. it now almost fills a 5 gallon jug and is extremely heavy.

i've sneakers from when i was 19, maybe 20. still wear 'em, & get compliments on them, lol

Boy Scout Order of the Arrow neckerchief, circa 1972.

Statue from Mickey Mouse watch, circa 1968, but I only paid for half of it.
Lost the watch in a field hunting for smokey quartz with my Mom many years
later.

Not something I bought, but I was just talking about this the other day. When I bought my very first car (a Mustang), my sister didn't have a car at the time (I don't know why, since she is older and did have one before me) so she would always bug me to borrow mine. Well since it was my first car I didn't like this, but my Mom made me lend it to her anytime she wanted. So I would whine..."It's my car!". My sister bought me a key chain that says "My Car" on it and I still have it and use it.

Oooooh. You should have them appraised -take them to a comic book collectible store. On Storage Wars, a guy made a bundle on them. He said he wished he had held onto them, & he probably could have retired.

Not new, but I bought a used 84 celica. I still have it. Haven't driven it in awhile, but the miles are pretty low considering, & it's still in good condition. Maybe in 10 years it will be worth more than I paid for it. People write their phone #s in the dust, asking if I want to sell. lol.

I think the oldest things I've kept that I bought myself are parts of a horse collection I had when I was a little girl.

Some of the porcelain and plastic horses I bought from my allowance, and some were given to me as gifts.

New with money I earned delivering the Town News and I still have it and love it pops, skips and all!! I met him at the deli I worked at YEARS later and got his autograph (he died soon after that and it really hit me hard).

A turquoise rain bird necklass and my campfire girls hankerchief. The last time I wore the necklass to a show I had people wanting to buy it right off of me.
