I just had a small jar of oysters and leftover pot roast coming up.
Had a couple of friends over for cocktails appetizers and a New Year's champagne toast. No midnight ball-drop for us!
Snacks were Mom's baked chicken wings with a new truffle hot sauce, liverwurst and onions on pumpernickel bread, sopressetta and fontina cheese. Presented in my stepmother's wonderful platter.

That sandwich reminds me of the K Mart sandwich I used to get.

It also reminds me of the Buddie Boy that Big Boy restaurants used to serve.
Funny, I was thinking baked squash and broccoli tonight, too. I've got ham, but I'm pretty hammed-out.

This steak came out very tender, New York strips always do for me, but this one was VERY tender.
I allowed the salt and onion mixture to sit on the steak at room temp for 30 minutes.

The ham was excellent - a $20 ham marked down to $6. She doctored it with crushed pineapple and brown sugar.

We had a Wal-Mart a mile away... was instrumental in driving K-Mart out,,,
Wally wanted to take over half of the
other stores in the center to build a "Super Store"... Township denied it, so wally closed THEIR
mart and built the Super Store in the next township... That huge store location
is still empty , three years later ... the K-Mart location is a Cross-Fit .......
The K-Mart I used to shop is now a Big R lol

I grew up on K-Mart submarine sandwiches. It was a good cheap meal that gave my mom a break. We all loved them!
My mom , when we first came into the "city", worked behind the lunch counter at Woolworth's ... they were called "Submarine Sandwiches" and cost 30 cents... but I got 'em free, lol !
I may do another steak today, if not a homemade pizza 😋🍕
