He formed a partnership with César Ritz, and the two men established a number of famous hotels, including the Grand Hotel in Rome and numerous Ritz Hotels around the world. In 1902, Escoffier published Le Guide Culinaire, which contains 5,000 recipes and is still used today as both a cookbook and textbook for classic cooking

The wife of the fourth President of the USA was a renowned entertainer and the first to serve ice cream in the White House. However, according to a 1978 history published by the International Association of Ice Cream Manufacturers, it was a freed black slave, Aunt Sallie Shadd, who gets the credit for inventing ice cream as we know it. Dolly Madison brought Sallie's product to the White House.
