Came home from work to an open freezer and ....

Yeah, the title says it all.

The last one is out of the house by 8 am and the first one home comes home about 430 PM.

He came home to an open freezer (25 cubic feet); an aside is that we just had the wooden floors scraped and varnished ... some water on the floor plus the food was soft.

A day later, the freezer is still not solidly frozen. is that unusual?

home freezers are not designed to freeze 30-40-50-100 pounds of stuff in the next 20 minutes.

I'm rather sorry to say, you're likely facing a pile of defrost loss.....

Oh, yes, I threw out a bunch of fish and other foods; I didn't want to get food poisoning. Also, I want the freezer to close well and it really was overful.

That's happened to us years ago. We did a lot of cooking that night.

I was a dorm director in college. My wife and I drove to Alaska for the Summer 77 break. The maintenance guys turned the power to the dorm off after I left. I had a small freezer full fish and steaks... it wasn't nice when we got back 1.5 months later.

I'm continually checking mine to this day.

A coworker suggested that I Velcro ours shut, bottom and top. It's not a bad idea.

My unit is old, need to look at at an upgrade, and not lose the key!
