Yellow wax beans are no longer in stores?

I've been meaning to ask this for awhile (well, maybe I HAVE asked it, but don't remember?)

Anyway, I used to find fresh yellow wax beans in the supermarket, and I really like them. Failing fresh, I swear I used to buy them frozen.

Now all I can find is canned yellow beans, and of course, they are nowhere near the same.

I plant them every year, but I wonder why I can't buy them anymore.

Anyone?

Tapia Brothers is a farm stand near my garden. I've gotten to know them quite well. My friends there said that they grew them one year but nobody wanted to buy them. Carolyn tried to convince people that they were better than the green but green is what folks wanted. That's probably why you're not seeing them in the stores. I planted a triple row about 20 feet long. Just now starting to see buds on the plants.

For some reason, yellow taste better than regular green beans to me. PARTICULARLY with a ham steak and mashed potatoes - it's the perfect combination!

I also plant Scarlet Runner Beans, more for the blossoms than the beans, but I do eat the beans. And I'm planting bush Roma beans (the flat Italian beans) because my Dad likes them.

All in containers!

they were here friday, & when i called a minute ago & said, 'is that a high-demand item~' the guy i spoke to said, 'uh, well. um, the entire display is empty, now.'
the manager drinks @ the same place as me. if i see him later this week, i'll get info.

Thanks, luvs! I'm curious to know if it was just low demand or something else.

>>low demand

I asked at our local farmer's stand - they confirm your suspicion - green beans are popular, wax beans not so much....

Yellow wax are all my father used to plant because he like the taste better. mom used to can dozens of quarts of them every year so we could enjoy them after the season ended. We don't see them around these parts either, so it must be a supply/demand thingy. Luvs must live in an ethnically diverse part of town to see them in the stores. We just don't have the strong ethnic communities here any longer, as most have become Americanized and moved to the 'burbs.
