Wii Questin?

I am thinking of taking the plunge. The question I have is are there any bundles that are worth getting in the beggining, or is it better to just buy the console and get the rest of the stuff after? Also, what are the best games for the wii???

TIA

L

Dh bought me a Wii for Christmas. He got the console, 2 controllers, 2 numchucks and a charging station. He said it was better to get it in the bundle. I would think it would be cheaper in the long run.
We play the Wii sports that came with it. He also got me Iron Chef and Smarter than a 5th Grader. lol We also got some games for the grandkids to play.
I'm looking to get Wii Fitness.....but they're not coming down too much in price.

We got one over the weekend when our cable was out. We got one extra controller, and the Wii Fit. None of it was bundled except the Wii Sports that comes with the console. It's a pretty fun game (I like the tennis a lot), but I would recommend getting at least one extra game like Mario Cart, or Super Smash Bros. Brawl, just for some variety...

Tiger Woods Golf is also Awesome. Takes to much time to play it though. The Bowling that comes with Wii sports is way cool. Just like the real thing. Be sure to go into setup and practice for bowling. You'll find where you can bowl down 90+ pins. It starts out with 10 pins and adds a row each throw. Lots of fun. We even have competitions at that because you don't have to take turns. You bowl all your frames and then the next up goes.

Paul says...skip Wii and go for an x-box! There are exciting things coming out in the next year...

( besides we have to keep him employed so I can sit on the beach all day!!!!)

BTW, is your PC still giving you problems or did you buy an Apple?

So, Wii is just a game then? I thought I saw some Wii references with other electronics. I don't get the whole Wii thing. Why do I want to stand up to play the game when I can be sitting on my couch next to my beer and chips? :thumb:

I hold my beer in my hand while I'm playing. lol

DW got one about a month ago. Had the bundled disc with bowling, golf, and tennis. We bowl a bit. Also got Mario Kart. It's fun. You can sit on a chair and drive, so you're a little closer to your beer...........wonder if a feller can get a "Dewey" for drinking and driving Mario Kart.......

It depends on who and how many will be using it, Lefty. Here, 4 controllers and 4 nunchucks were essential. You can have up to 4 players for Wii Sports, and we usually do. That's a good game, along with the Super Mario games, for pretty much everyone. There are the sports games that are very popular with men. There are first person shooters, which lots of kids like. There are RPG games, which I personally love, but they are games that you work through to an end - called beating the game. Those have a different pace - you either like them or you don't. There are driving games and fighting games and music games and fitness games.

I would suggest going to GameStop, or some place similar, where you can try out games there. Also, ask your daughter. She's 12, right? Also, you can rent games at BlockBuster which is a very, very good idea. The games are expensive and sometimes they aren't games you want to play more than once so renting is the cheapest way to decide what you like.

BTW, I love Wii Fit and your wife might, too. It has an awesome yoga section, it weighs you, and it's a lot of fun for an adult. My kids liked it for a while but it really doesn't keep a kid's attention.

As FM says, who will be using it. If the target audience is younger, 14 or less, then the Wii is a good idea. It’s the cheaper of the NextGen consoles, although a bit light on the hardware.

If you’re looking for a console for yourself or the late-teen crowd, then as Lily said, grab the Xbox 360 or a PS3. Most games are cross platform now, so buying either one gets you the majority of the good games. There are a few worthwhile exclusives, but not many these days.

Wii did try to grow up a bit by offering a mature rated ultra violence fighter game called Mad World. It was very interesting, but short, and a bit repetitive. Shock value was a bit high though.

But speaking of exclusives, I feel the Wii is worth the price of admission for Zelda and Metroid. The sports games are also nice mini-distractions, and the remake of Punch Out stands to be a platform seller for the older gamers from the NES days. Downloadable content allows you to get at some classic Nintendo titles which is a definite plus for the nostalgic.

Well Im 38. I'll pick the Wii over the rest. I really like the activity they put into the games. I despise the xbox and playstation controllers because I find it very difficult to adjust to em. Give me a keyboard or a mouse or a Wii controller. Nothing else compares for me.

Did you get one yet Lefty?

Like Keltin mentioned you can play any of the old Nitendo games on Wii. Plus you can connect to the internet (via WiFi) with it and view the internet on your TV. Kinda cool for YouTube vids. Plus you can go to the Wii store online and buy games. We bought cornhole for 5 bucks. Nothing fancy but a fun game, much like the real thing.
I know nothing of the xbox and PS so I can't compare them to wii.

Not downplaying the Wii because I have one and I like it. However, as an alternative, the PS3 can also access the Internet via WiFi plus it is still easily one of the finest Blu-Ray players available at any price.

Not yet, we were just talking about it again this morning.

We've had our Wii for a couple of years now, it's so much fun for all ages. we have 2 controllers & 2 numchucks...when we visit friends who also have the Wii, we take our controllers with us as all our info is stored in them, just makes it easier.
Our son has one too, he lives 10 miles away, he wanted to play against Dad, so we both bought Bass Fishing which enables son & Dad to compete against each other.
My favourite has to be The legend of Zelda...took me 18 months to complete...I've never seen anything like this...amazing game
Mario Kart is brill too..

Thanks Lefty! So now you have one too, right?
I did bundle mine up. Wii, 4 remotes, 4 nunchucks, 4 motion plus, 4 jell covers, Wii Fit, 2 sets of battery chargers, 2 Sports bundles, 2 additional wheels, and 4 Zap guns. I think that covers all the hardware and accessories I got.
For games I got Fit, Sports Resort, MarioCart, Clone Wars, Light Saber Duels, Ghost Squad, and Link's Crossbow Training.
