Got a whole chicken for 99 cents a pound.. $5 bucks or so.
Roasted it, let it cool, stripped the meat from the bones,
and had enough for 3 meals with generous chicken quantity...
Plus 8 pints of homemade broth for use in anything that needs
water...
plus a nice pile of boneless tendons, defatted skin, gristle and
such to chop finely and mix into the dogs' food so they will
stay spoiled!
That's $1.66 meat cost per meal, and to buy 4 quarts of stock
would be in the range of $8.00 or more.
(Although, to be honest, I REALLY like finding the baked whole
chicken on quick sale at Krogers for like $3.50. Doesn't happen
here in IN too much, but in NC, I scored often!)
