What are you eating Sunday, 6/28/2026 to Saturday, 7/4/2026?

The Finnish summer delicacy number one: new potatoes with dill, butter and Baltic herrings.

We went to a potluck at our HOA. Over 100 people showed up. 2/3 of them bought pre-made food. That's always disappointing. One person even put the empty can of Bush's in front of his/her crackpot of beans. I guess they thought everyone loves Bush's beans. Several people brought fried chicken in the takeout containers. Cakes & brownies from the grocery store. Lots of brownies.

I made cherry-blueberry cobbler. I pulled it from the oven at the last minute, so it arrived to the dessert table hot. People went to the dessert table to get it even before they got their food. It was the first thing gone. Whenever someone makes something homemade at these events, it goes quickly!

I have similar experiences. And, it always seems that the one that brings a bag of potato chips will be the one that piles their plate with enough food for 4 meals! Or just stuffs food in their bag to-go?

The host had chips and Cheeto’s which were a hit - this wasn't a pot luck but folks did bring sides. We were told not to. They are doing another in August and I will bring beans. There were no beans yesterday but lots of different macaroni’s.

We had so much food. Homemade salsa and chips to start. Italian sausages with peppers and onions, brats with sauerkraut, COTC, broccoli salad, tomato/cucumber salad for dinner. The fella made a Cheesecake with blueberries and red, white, and blue M&Ms for dessert. Also we were decked out in red, white, and blue. Enjoyed the day with friends, went swimming, fled from a storm, and watched fireworks on TV. A nice day.
