I love history, art, architecture, food and the outdoors, so my vacations have been all over the place - touring Ireland in a rental car and staying in B&Bs; visiting the Grand Canyon and hiking in Sedona; staying in a hotel across the street from the beach in Barbados, and taking a driving tour of the island; and much more. I went on one cruise - it was okay, but we made sure it traveled at night and we could do day trips each day.

I am a mountain cabin guy by the lake. Big fireplace, fish caught fresh from the lake, swimming off the dock, kayaking, a cool thunderstorm...

I love very quiet vacation spots. I work and live in a big city, I want peace and quiet, and away from crowds...

I know every hole on every major golf course in Scotland. Send me back, again and again. I can't get enough.

We do a lot of back packing so I chose the cabin BUT in all truth I'd rather be at our condo on the beach!

I chose two; The cabin by the lake, and "other"
Other would be a six-week tour of antique tractor and engines shows throughout the mid west, hitting some of the biggies such as Rollag, Mn. NTA in Ohio, and so on.

First choice is the beach, second choice is the cabin on the lake, and I really do like to gamble (love LasVegas ), but I usually end up feeling bad when I wind up losing my moo-lah to the one-armed bandits.

OMG, Lefty .... BEACH!!!

My strong preference is tropical island (Bahamas, Caribbean), but because of family issues, I'll take more local.

My vacations the last 2 years have been a trip to Warren's house for the ECG. Dawn and I have never been big on vacations as I traveled so much for awhile in our marriage. We really like to just hang out at home quietly these days. The quieter the better.

All inclusive resort on the beach...in a large bay, on a rather quiet lesser traveled tropical island. Best one I've been to so far....southern end of a small island in the Bahamas...an island called Eleuthera.

The UP of Michigan, on the lake, IN a lighthouse.
That would be my dream vacation or retired life, for that matter. :D
Anyone know of a lighthouse that needs a keeper?

I chose other because my idea of heaven is to loll on an empty beach for hours and hours. If I couldn't hit the beach, I'd enjoy a mountain cabin.

Hey Left, need someone to split the cost of renting the cabin or the fly-in? Get my kayak and yours, let's go slay some fish!

I am surprised there aren't more in the cruise camp. IMO, BEST bang for the buck. for me too, it is the best/cheapest way to go home and not have to stay with friends/family. I avoid lines like Carnival, but you can get as involved with activities as you choose, or find a deck chair and sit and drink ice cold beverages all day, nap, and wake up and do it again.

We like sightseeing, but we also enjoy wandering around and waiting to 'find' something great. Cities are great, not necessarily big cities. It's more about the history of a place than the size of it.

And where is the option for ocean/islalnd??? love those vacations!!!
