TRUTH !!

It may seem strange to us, but in Elizabethan times people carried their own cutlery, usually a sharp-pointed knife and a spoon, with them. Hosts would provide plenty of food and wine, but not silverware. You would not have brought a fork, even if you owned one; they were considered an affectation and would have made you an object of mockery. Most food was eaten with the fingers; very large napkins would be provided for cleaning your hands throughout the meal.
