CRAP !!

Excluding the Vatican, the two closest capital cities in Europe, being only 34 miles apart, are Vienna and Bratislava .

Bratislava, capital of Slovakia and Vienna, capital of Austria, are the nearest capital cities. This only came about in 1992 when the country of Czechoslovakia underwent the 'Velvet Divorce' and was divided into Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Prior to that Prague had been the capital. The Vatican is completely surrounded by Rome, so you really could not get much closer than that!
