The tradition of the bride carrying flowers originated to mask body odor !

In many ancient cultures the bride carried bouquets of herbs and spices to ward off evil spirits. However, in the 1500s it was common for people to take only a yearly bath, usually in May. As weddings were common in June, the bride was becoming odoriferous again, so she carried fragrant flowers to make her smell sweeter.
