TRUTH !!
In 1751, Washington travelled to Barbados with his much loved older brother Lawrence who had contacted tuberculosis. They had hoped the trip would be beneficial to Lawrence's health, but alas it was not to be so, and Lawrence died in 1752. His loss left Washington grief stricken. Following the death of his father when Washington was only eleven, Lawrence acted as surrogate father and role model to the future and first President of the United States. It was during this trip to Barbados that Washington contracted the smallpox which would leave his face slightly scarred for the rest of his life.
