TRUTH !!

Not affiliated with the 1901 American League franchise, the 1871 National Association League Philadelphia Athletics went 21-7. They won the first-ever baseball pennant by two games over the Chicago White Stockings. The Athletics were led by third baseman Levi Meyerle who batted .492, and pitcher Dick McBride who won 18 games. The runner-up White Stockings was the same franchise that would later become the Chicago Cubs in the National League.
