The 29th was composed of men from Maryland (blue) and Virginia and North Carolina (gray). The combined strength of both divisons was about 34,000 men. They suffered about 2,400 casualties, including 19 men from Bedford, VA, a town of 3,400 peole which was the biggest loss of men from one city in the USA.
