For many years Jupiter was acknowledged as having the most moons at 79.
However, US researchers, in 2019, discovered another batch of 20 moons orbiting Saturn, raising their number to 82. Of these twenty, seventeen possess a retrograde orbit, which means they orbit Saturn backwards. The new moons were discovered using the Subaru telescope, situated on Maunakea in Hawaii.
