Seeing clearly: Martin Jones opens his newly-sighted eye fitted with a tooth

When Martin Jones met his wife four years ago, he never imagined that one day he would get to see what she looked like.
The 42-year-old builder was left blind after an accident at work more than a decade ago.
But a remarkable operation - which implants part of his tooth in his eye - has now pierced his world of darkness.

OMG! That is so fantastic! A tooth? I lost my left eye due to an accident a long time ago, and my sight in my right eye is getting bad. I would gladly give a tooth to be able to see better! Dont care what it looks like. Almost unbelievable! Thanks for posting this Shushi~

I was gonna make a joke about giving my right eye tooth until I saw Peggy's post. Peggy, I hope you're doing okay and that your sight improves. I'm one of the lucky ones - 65 years old and my distance vision is still 20/10 - no operations.

Thats okay Buzz, I can take a joke! As a matter of fact, when I first got my glasses afterward, my brother was with me. He asked are they okay? I said, no! he said why? I said, I still can't see a dang thing our of my left eye! He didn't know what to say, but hey, that's me, lol! I'm good with it. I have an eye appt on the 13th. But, that is why sometimes I have to post in all caps! No disrespect intended!

I was injured in a tractor accident on my 12th birthday as I've posted before. I had my face crushed when me with 3 other kids (related to me) drove the family tractor off a mountain. Well I lost both eyes for 18 months being on a list for a dog and learning Braille woke up one morning and could see shadows for the first time in 18 months. By that night I had perfect vision in my right eye but lost the left eye (removed) 2 years later. Now at the time my eyes where the least of my worries as I had about 400 operations over the next 4 years with about 20 after that until I said no more. At any rate I was lucky in that I've lead a full life for 63 years and would have if left blind too which I have no doubt of. Now this guy just proves that somethings can be stranger than fiction which I tend to believe. Now with old age I've lost my sense of smell and palette to a large degree but I still see good even with one eye.

Oh gosh Joe, you sure have been put through it, I didn't know either. I'm sorry to hear that you had all that to go through. 420 operations? Now I am speechless. Also, I didn't know that about people being able to use dog's eyes for transplants. Interesting. My Mom's good friend's husband received a pig heart for his heart transplant. Medicine sure has come a long way.
