Thinking of doing a whole hog on Halloween. Tell me things...

When I was 11 or so, my parents cooked a whole pig for a party for the employees of the company my mom worked for at the time. We lived on a farm at the time, and a neighbor raised and killed the pig.

My dad and a couple friends dug a pit in the backyard a couple of days before the event, started a fire in it, and buried the hog. I don't remember how they wrapped it. I think it was in there for a day or two, then they took it out and cooked it on a spit to brown it up. It was amazing. Sorry I don't have more details.

btw, my mom worked for a company that made screws, called National Set Screw. Co. They had a big banner in the front yard calling the party "The Second Annual Screw Festival." That went over well on the bus trip to sixth grade on Monday :yum:
