Stewed Monkey
Went here tonight with Sushi, here is my review, Shush will post his after mine, as he was there first and had some experiences I did not.
The waitstaff:
Pleasant enough, average service, she made a mistake or two but it was kinda funny watching her. She looked and acted very nervous. Never offered a dessert menu at all.
The beverages:
We tried the Route 66 sodas, Katie had Lime and then Cream Soda I had Root Beer. The Root Beer was made from pure cane sugar, tasted it, and was great. But not worth the $3 they charged. Katie's was ambiguous in that the label said it may or may not contain HFCS or just sugar. It was about as good as a generic soda and certainly not worth the $3.
The Soup/Salad bar:
Two soups, I tried one that was like DW's Ox Tail Soup. It was pretty good, a bit too spicy with no flavor added by making it so. I did not try the other one. The salad bar, well I have more to offer at home than they did on theirs, and my ingredients are higher quality.
The Appetizers:
We had fried chicken gizzards and chicken livers. Both were great, and a decent amount for the $5.95 the charged. Skip the BBQ sauce.
The Entrees:
Katie had the chicken pot pie at $9, it was fantastic! I got one bite in to taste it before it disappeared!! Man she ate that fast. I went with their 'signature' chicken basket dinner. $15 for half a chicken (4 pieces). While the chicken was high quality and juicy, the breading left you wondering what the heck were they thinking??? It was nothing more than bread crumbs, I don't think they even seasoned them! A very serious let down and makes me wonder what Guy was on when he reviewed it and said it was so good!?
My other options were macarony and cheese for $9 or BBQ ribs for $22. I could never justify paying $9 for some mac and cheese, and Lord no I aint paying $22 for some ribs!!!!!!
The Desserts:
Beats me. They never offered us any. I did look at what I thought was their display case... there was only one dessert in there, and that was 3/4's of an apple pie with some caramel drizzled on it.
Overall rating: 2 stars out of 5, and that is only cause the appetizers were real good and the pot pies were fantastic! Skip the soda and buy the 4 pack mix and match of soda on the way out the door for half the price! You pick any 4 flavors you want and go.
