🌹 Still trying to get it right.
Good day everyone!!
It is my girls birthday and as she requested we took her out for dinner to Olive Garden last week during spring break. I will be making Mama's poppy seed chicken dish for dinner tonight. I hope it turns out as good as hers looked.

Any plans?

Not a clue. I need to have a "clean out the fridge" night.

Tell your DD that I hope she has a Happy Birthday, Peepers and I hope you like the Poppy seed chicken.

I'm thinking Fish and Chips, in honor of the royal wedding.

Seriously.

Lee

Okay, I had to go get the tags for the boat trailer and one of the cars so I went by Publix and picked up some of that Taylor Pork Roll that Peepers keeps talking about and posting pics of.

So, lunch today was the fried pork roll on a kaiser roll with romaine lettuce, vidalia onions, tomato and mayonnaise as well as some Progresso Split Pea with ham soup.

I'd never had that pork roll before. I read on the package that it was fully cooked and just need to be heated so to be honest, when I first took it out of the package, I wasn't quite sure I wanted to try it  I totally understood why they didn't have a "window" in the package  But, I was told to fry it up until it was slightly brown so that's what I did. It looked much more appetizing at this point and smelled wonderful. It tastes kinda like a cross between ham and bacon with a slightly sour twang. I don't quite know how else to explain it .

I really enjoyed it and will probably have another sandwich just like it for lunch tomorrow. Thanks Peepers and BT for recommending it!

You're welcome Mama. It has a unique JERSEY flavor. LOL

BEAUTIFUL sandwich!! And you cut the compass!! LOL I LOVE the tang of it. We buy a whole pork roll either Taylor brand or the Shop-Rite brand tangy pork roll (we usually buy the Shop-Rite because the roll is larger and $1.10 cheaper and just as good). I also had a TLT on a toasted english muffin with mayo for lunch (I used butter lettuce salad mix). A Jersey staple for breakfast is taylor ham and american cheese (with or without egg) on a kaiser roll some put ketchup on it but not me! I add some hot sauce instead and no egg. I like mine nicely brown even crisp sometimes. Taylor ham is a meat choice on ALL breakfast menus in Jersey.

Taylor Pork Roll
16.00 oz
$6.79
Price/oz Price

ShopRite Pork Roll - Tangy
Hickory Smoked
24.00 oz
$5.69
Price/oz Price

Both of those are both much better prices than I paid for it. I paid $2.79 for 6 ounces...I guess it's because it's imported  :yum:

Pork Roll is a favorite in my house also. Glad you liked it Mama.:chef:

And it might also be called Taylor Ham, but in NJ it's referred to only as Pork Roll.

YUP!! Do you put ketchup or hot sauce on your pork roll and cheese sandwich? It's unique like Jerseyites!!

This must be what you were talking about on Facebook yesterday, Peeps.

Thanks for posting the pic Mama!

It looks like it's processed so I wouldn't be eating any of it in the near future but the dh might like it. lol

I'm thinking grilled chicken breasts or thighs (need to go to the store) with grilled asparagus and a green salad.

i got a meatball sammich @ a very local drinkery. delicious! i intended to ingest half, cept i went on to ingest both halves of that 'lil 1/2 sammich- that was scrumptious!

This is coming from the dh: Ooooh! I wish we had a Long John Silvers in town. I'm in the mood for Fish and Chips. I suppose I'll have to settle for a Burger and Fries. :0)

Well he looks pretty happy to me. lol

He looks happy with beef and chips!! LOL

Tasted very good but doesn’t look as nice as Mama’s.

Poppy seed chicken and a salad (red & green butter lettuce, sliced mushroom, tomato and red seedless grapes) dressed with homemade vinaigrette.

hmm, i've only called it taylor ham, i guess because of the brand name. never pork roll.

i'm glad you enjoyed it mama. it isn't the nicest looking stuff, much like a fatty bologna. but it tastes great on a sandwich with eggs.

we ended up with takeout from a steak place because i had to go get the ingredients for pea soup, then we went to petco for cat and bird supplies.

they had cat adoptions tonight, so i might be going back to adopt a fun little male siamese/tabby mix. he's a solid cream colour with a slightly tabby striped tail and blue siamese eyes. i hope dw doesn't balk and say no tomorrow.

You got a better price on the Taylor brand BUT Shop-Rite beats it. Note same weight but different amount of slices (strange because they both say thin sliced. I only but the whole roll).
From my Shop-Rite supermarket:

Taylor Pork Roll - Thin Sliced
8 Slices
6.00 oz
Price $2.99

ShopRite Pork Roll - Tangy - Thin Slices
Hickory Smoked - 6 slices
6.00 oz
Price $1.50

We also call it Taylor ham even though we buy shop-rite brand. LOL

Which Petco? Or all and for how long?

I'm glad you liked it Peepers! It looks great! If you had any leftovers, they heat up well.
Thank you Mama!
