Sounds like you had a great time.

I lived here all my life and I've never heard it called sand dog Sunny eggo yeah. Or just plain Diego.

The San Diego zoo is a must see ! You are going to be here the perfect time of year to see it. Most all the tourists have gone home now and the weather is fantastic here. September through October I think they're the nicest months of the year here in San Diego oh did I mention the tourist have gone home, at least most of them. I've been to see world a few times and I don't see the attraction and it just another themepark with expensive shops. If you're from the Midwest and you want to see killer whales and other sea creatures well it's okay but I would visit Scripps aquarium in La Jolla. La Jolla. There is also way very nice beach to visit, along with the shops at the beach and downtown La Jolla. You can also head south from La Jolla down La Jolla Blvd. to Pacific Beach. And further down from Pacific Beach there is a mission beach where there is a amusement park with a roller coaster and other types of things like that if you have children with you it might be a fun stop. There's also places to rent bicycles around this area to cruise up and down the boardwalk on and people watch. I have to say something about people watching in San Diego we have quite a variety let's say some the locals and the beach area are quite colorful, I'll leave it at that. Oh yeah I forgot as your coming south from La Jolla and you get into Pacific Beach there is mission Bay where they have boat rentals for sailing or rowing or kayaks whatever you want. There are also other attractions around San Diego Bay like the aircraft carrier Midway and there is a old sailing ship also and there are tourist boat rides in the Bay also. If you head over to point Loma which would be the west part of downtown there is a sport fishing dock where they have whale watching boats that go out in the ocean. Not sure if it's that season now. I could go on and on about San Diego but I have to say one of the hidden jewels of San Diego is point Loma Seafoods this is a must visit for lunch. I would order a sloppy squid split sandwich and yes that's the way you order it sloppy sloppy means extra tartar sauce the squid is giant squid tenderized with a fantastic Mrs. Kelly's batter that they sell their and split means the sandwich will be cut in half I would recommend split on all their sandwiches. They also have smoked fish although a little hard to keep lit, my poor attempt at humor there. But you must go to point Loma seafoods. You can Google it and print out a map if you like. Sounds like you're going to be in the San Diego Bay Area anyway lots of things to do downtown also the gaslamp Quarter is a lot of fun, many restaurants and watering holes. Oh and there's also Tijuana if you care to venture across the border just make sure you have your passport.

Lefty, have fun. I was in San Diego back in '89, for the Sea World Holiday Bowl. Band Trip when I was in HS. I remember we went to Sea World, toured around Old Town, of course the game, etc. I know we went to the harbor, across from the Navy base. I remember three carriers were tied up at dock, but don't remember which ones.

The U.S.S. Midway is berthed in San Diego???? My father served on that ship in the late 70's, out of Japan. I remember being on it while the ship was in port once or twice.

Hope you are there and settled in by now Lefty. If you have to be away from home San Diego is the place I'd rather be. Please take pics you can share with you buddies here on NCT and share some of your SD experiences so we can live vicariously through you. :hide:

Doing good gals/guys. First week is over. Now to find something to do over the weekend. I tried to find a Legion Post but the gps wasn't going for it. Checked out Little Italy. Going to get some walking in this weekend. I will take the camera. It is beautiful here.

If you can't find stuff to see/do, in SD, than you need to check your pulse.

What kind of Ship is the Chancellor?

Guided missile cruiser. Ticonderoga Class.

I actually found an American Legion where I ordered a beer and shot and it cost less than 5 bucks. I also took a trolley ride. I guess I was whining cause it was my 1st weekend away from home. In 20 years this is the first trip over a week long.

WOW! Man, I wouldn't know what to do with myself, that is a LONG time to have been stayed put!

Enjoy the city, it is a fantastic place to be, with everything under the sun to enjoy!

I need to become a legion member! Damn, that's a great deal, there is an American legion building(gathering hall?)About 2 blocks form me, and I always wonder what it is.

married men again..

Again?! Oh, do tell, Sass! I knew you seemed like a fun lady! lol!

Lefty. I would spend some time down at the waterfront(I know you are on boats, but. . .)there is such a great scene, good food, and great stuff going on. For the weekends, if I am not mistaken there are quite a few areas that load up with local food hawkers, and there are some GREAT grindz to be had, for cheap.

I hope that we will get to see some pics of your trip!

When all else fails, the city is the home for YELP, and I personally LOVE yelp, they certainly have loads to say about their locale

Meh, it wasn't fun.
Have a friend on the other forum.
Male.
Gossip mongers accused us of having an affair just because he was always there for me in the past concerning some illnesses and when my Mom and sister passed away.-- it spun out of control from there, but has since been brought to light.

I'm so sorry. .. it's a shame that those gossip mongers never seem to have graduated from high school. . .

You're A-OK in my book, don't let those that gossip get to you. The only reason they gossip is because their lives are so unfulfilled that they need to fill it with other peoples "excitement", even when that excitement is simply support.

Lefty ; if you're still here in San Diego you may want to pick up a reader that's a free little newspaper that is handed out in the beach area you will have lots of things to do that are free if money is an issue. Hope you had a chance to go the point, Seafoods it really is the jewel of San Diego. Also I would recommend mission beach that turns into Pacific Beach Boardwalk for something to do. There's also a Boardwalk on the Bayside once you pass a roller coaster in North Mission Beach.
