Strange TV night

You know this is weird. I have DirecTv and have 3 free months of Show Time which I got as an Anniversary gift from DirecTV. We also have the free Starz from last Thursday till Sunday and I pay normally have the Choice Xtra, HD Extra Pack and HBO and with all that the only show I want to see is Bill Maher at 11 PM go figure. Every movie on HBO, Showtime and Starz I've either just seen or have seen some time ago, it is like rerun central. They sure aren't convincing me to spend more with them based on what they show. The big movie tonight on Starz is "No Country for Old Men" a great movie yes but it played all last month on HBO, DUH.

That is why we gave up on the movie packages, uggg. We have Netflix now so we can pick the movies we want to watch!
And then wait a day or two till they arrive!! LOL. But that beats our only other alternative which is On Demand. Tons of movies there and every new release plus tons of shows. But the price for a new release is $5.99 now and some of the network shows want $.99 to $1.99 to watch an episode!!

Get Roku for 99 bucks, and your Netflix account triples in value! Trust me! It is worth it!!!

I actually go up to the corner Kroger's and put a dollar bill in a machine and get the latest movie release. I then have 24 hours to take it back not a big deal at all for me. My grand daughter has netflex which I think is a bit over priced for my needs since I probably rent a movie every couple of months. The only reason I have and keep HBO is because their made for HBO shows are far superior to many of the top movies out there. Many of which are just plan super shows such as the Sopranos, Sex in The City, Bill Mehar, Big Love etc. I happen to like my entertainment that shows how people really live unlike the network real shows. Now I've had them all over the years and only HBO produces the movie quality of shows though the Tudors and The United States of Tara are good, ShowTime has a history of losing shows after a single season with a few making two.

Oh and Bill Mehar was good tonight unless you watch Fox or lean to the Right.

DW just did that last night at a Wal-Mart. It's a trip! Amazing the new releases you can get from those machines. Considering those and Netflix, if you bur.......uh, watch them really fast and send them back quickly, you get a lot for your money. On a fast month, we can get 24 movies in a month (3 out at a time - 6 per week) from Netflix for only 17.99 which is about 75 cents per rental.

Yes but I have time to actually sit down and watch 4 movies a month, usually Sundays. Now when you take in that on average HBO puts a premier movie on Saturday night every couple of weeks. I see pretty much catch the really hot ones or the worst of the bad about the same time the videos come out. That leaves me renting rarely more that a single movie a month. The one I'm wanting to view now is "W" which will be on HBO in two weeks so I can wait as it will be on at least a month straight, followed by 2 years of periodic re runs over the next few years or it hits Network TV.

Odd thing about Netflix is, it's actually a bit hard to get the newest movies. Long waits are always there. We've used it mostly to get all the older ones we love. TV shows, TV Series, Old Boris Karlof, Lon Chaney, Vincent Price, and simply tons of classics we love. Picked up the Walking Tall and Billy Jack series a few weeks ago, and was pleased to see that again.

Then with Roku, you can get thousands of flicks instantly on your TV. I just added Hitchhikers Guide, Full Metal Jacket, Phantasm, The Evil Dead, and Night of the Living Dead (1968 BW version), all ready to play when I click the button. I've actually got 241 movies in my instant watch que that I can play at anytime via Roku thanks to Netflix. Like I have the time! :yum:

But it is nice to have all of that on demand when you want it. And the TV series are cool too. I watched the whole Jericho series a few weeks back on demand through Roku.

I liked Showtime for Weeds and Californication, but Weeds seems to have tanked in the 3rd season, and I wasn't willing to pay for Showtime just for Californication.....but I did love it.

We have the Red Box machines here, but they are always empty!! Too popular around here I guess!

I actually plan on getting one of those Roku's this summer, more convenient that watching on the computer cause then I can't play on the Internet and watch it as well! LOL

Amazing thing about that little box is all the connection options. It supports everything from HDMI all the way down to composite! And it outputs in HD. They just added Amazon.com to the list, so now any unboxed movie (on demand) amazon has, you can purchase and have on Roku.

OK, I will share with you my movie secrets. I don't have access to Netflix, Walmart, Krogers or any of those things. I go to http://graboid.com or http://surfthechannel.com and I can watch new releases and all the TV programs I want that I can't get here.....but I don't really watch much TV. Or movies. I paint and I cook and I visit with friends and I hang out with DH.

I actually buy more movies than I rent. A good example is I saw August Rush this month on HBO and went out and bought it on Blue Ray. Just simply loved the movie. I probably own 100 DVD in both digital, HD and Blue Ray and luckily I have two players that does both HD, BRay and upconverting so even the digital look better on it. One is on the 46" set in the living room and the other on the 32" in the bed room all have HD and Blue ray. As soon as I buy a new computer I will have HD on it though now it is only digital. But I watch it more than either the living room or bedroom tv's go figure.
