Steakhouse Dining; Who likes to go to one?

Reading Johnny West's thread about Filet Mignon has prompted me to ask this question. Who likes steakhouse dining? Do you go to one often & what's your favorite steakhouse & steak? What sides do you often choose? Salad? What do you like on it? My most favorite steak of all is Filet Mignon! I love it because it has far less fat & it's very tender!! This is the time of the evening for steakhouse madness, especially if or when you're in Las Vegas, Washington, DC or Philly! You & the family can enjoy quiet steakhouse dining at it's very best!!!! I mainly go to Ken's Steakhouse in Framingham or Longwood Steakhouse. There aren't too many around here. But the few that can be found are quite exceptional. :whistling:

Old City Prime, Lima, Ohio.
Lock Sixteen, Lima, Ohio
Dick's Steakhouse Kalida, Ohio

All great steakhouses.
The chain steak places aren't my favourites.
Texas Roadhouse, etc ..

I like Annie's Paramount in Washington! Exceptional dining there! I also love their Buffalo chicken wings. They don't just fry them & then drown them in the buffalo sauce. I hate that!! You can't taste the heat! They just put a little bit of the sauce on the wings & bake them in the oven. They come out a little crispy & are very tasteful! You can really taste the chicken.

Not a huge steak eater. I don't order steak anywhere but Ruth Chris's Steak House in Boston. And I've only been there 3 times, but I love it.

The only place I ever order steak locally is at Michael John's - and that's rare. I usually order seafood at steakhouses. Even when I go to Bern's ( always rated on of the top three steakhouses in the country), I order their fabulous scallops.

Ruth's Chris is good, but they are too expensive in my opinion, mainly because the sides are Alacarte, meaning that you have to pay extra $$$$ for them!! And if it's just you eating there, if you order the sides, it's too much for you to eat because the sides are large, enough for two to four people! That's ridiculous to waste money like that if you're the only one that's eating there!!!!

I don’t like to go steak house dining. Like Lee, not a big fan of steaks, until recently. I’ll spend $55.00/# on dry aged and cook it myself. I’m not rich like you, @Shermie

I was once told that if you want steak, go to a restaurant that specializes in it & can do it best. Same for seafood places. I realize that people have choices when dining out, but you'd mainly go to places that you like. Legal Seafoods, to me, is the best place for chowder & seafood. :whistling:

Neither am I, but to try to get the best deals, you have to do your homework. It's not very often that I go to a steakhouse, but the ones that are not from a chain are the best, I'm told. That is why I go to Ken's Steakhouse. They seem to have experience with making people understand & be happy with their services, food & kindness, along with cooking steaks to perfection, the way that the customers like them. And BTW, a dry aged steak seems quite expensive to me at $55.00. You must get them from Whole Foods!! Hah!!!! :whistling:

Actually, Legal Seafood is just a chain that I see in airports. It's not much different than Red Lobster. They also do packaged foods that I can find in the grocery store. Not very good. And Ken's is more known for their salad dressings than their food.

Most good steakhouses also do great fish.

A friend & I went to Red Lobster in upstate New York in Albany, had appetizers & a Fish Sammie each. I will never go back there again!!! Even though the appetizers were nice, the fish sandwiches were so horrible!! The fish was so overcooked that it was dry & the outside looked so burnt & hard as a rock!!!! There's an old saying; If the food or service isn't right, the customers don't complain, they just don't go back!!!! I asked about the salad dressing on display at Ken's. The woman behind the display said; "You don't want THAT", giving me an indication that it's been sitting there a long time, that it more than likely is stale.

I love real steak houses but sad to say there aren’t many around here and the newest one, the old Pacific Grille, we’ve not been to. My wife is not a fan so when she sees “steak house” she turns up her nose. Luckily most of the places here have a decent steak so I can’t complain.

I’ve been to two different Ruth’s Chris, the Seattle one was quite good, and the Park City one, not. One of the best one’s I really like was Capitol Grille in Seattle but we don’t go there anymore. It was quite close to the Benaroyal Hall so we would eat there before concerts. The best steak house we’ve been to was Tom Colicchio’s Craftsteak in the MGM Grand - we took the whole family after the boys and Meg ran the Rock and Roll Marathon. We still have a local Black Angus and haven’t been there since we got back from Germany in 1993. We weren’t impressed with it and since we had Keg in our area we went there all the time till they closed all the Keg’s in WA except one in Redmond witch is to far to go. We’ve eaten at the Keg in Whistler several times but othe places there have excellent steaks. We’ve eaten at Hy’s in Whistler and liked it a lot. Of course my favorite place is The Grubsteak in Park City but never had a steak, just the prime rib. I know there are other place but these are the ones that stank out in my mind.

I’ve never had bad seafood at Red Lobster, but that’s me. I always stop at Legal Seafood’s at Logan and have had fresh shucked PEI oysters, lobster rolls, vodka martini’s, and bloodY Mary’s - no complaints.

I never knew Ken’s was a steak house. My wife loves their French Dressing and just got a box of them from Amazon. We cn’t find it in our local shops.

Yes, Capitol Grille IS a good one, even though it's part of a chain. Smith & Wilensky in Washington is good, also! When you see white tablecloths & real napkins (not paper ones you know that it'll cost you. But quality food & good service is what you want. It's what some places do to make your dining pleasure & experience there a very memorable one! Something that you'll remember & cherish for many years to come. :whistling:

Speaking of steakhouses, I'm in luck!! I've just been invited to one!! Framingham Station in Framingham, Ma., which used to be a railroad station, is a lot like Fogo de Chao a Brazilian steakhouse where the meat is roasted over open fire, then waiters will bring it to your table on a long spit & slice it for you, right at the table. It should be good!! Only thing is, it that they don't have draft beer. I'll see how that is, as long as they have beer that I like. They DO have alcoholic drinks though. :whistling:

Johnnie West, yes! Ken's is very much a steakhouse!! They've been in the business since around 1935 from a small restaurant!! Over the years, they expanded into the great place that it is today. Probably longer than most of then! They take great pride in their services, pleasing customers for quite a while. Their service is top-notch. I've never had any complaints at all!! I'd go back there again & again & again & again!!!! :whistling:

Back in the late 90’s my wife had a week long series of classes on the new computer system her hospital was getting. It was in Framingham and we stayed at the Holiday Inn that looked like a medieval castle. I loved their breakfast buffet and their corned beef hash.

Framingham Station was a problem for me! They do not have draft beer!!! You'd think that a steakhouse would have draft beer, but THAT one doesn't!!! Only bottled beer!! Won't be going that there until they do, if they do!!!! :bolt:

Sorry to hear that. I’ve seen it at other places, too, but the craft beer selection was good.

I suspect if they are a good steakhouse, they have a good wine list. You might want to try a red Bordeaux with your steak instead of a beer. You might find you like it.

They probably do, but I'm not much of a wine drinker. And they only had 1 exotic drink. Pina Colata!! I mainly drink draft beer & cocktails when I'm dining out. :whistling:
