I’m doing something different - I thought it was a chuck steak but was a top round steak so found a marinade to try and will grill later this afternoon.

1/2 cup olive oil
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp kosher salt
1 tbs basil
1 tbs dried onions
2 Tbs granulated garlic
2 tbs dried mustard
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tbs smoked paprika
marinate 4-8 hours

I knew that marinade recipe sounded good ... and familiar!

Very similar to my favorite marinade (I got a perfect score, marinating racks of lamb in this) - Magnificent Marinade. I like the additions to yours.

Ohh, this thread reminded me of my mother's marinade that she got the recipe from when I was around 12. It's for a chuck roast that you marinate for several days, grill to med rare to medium, then thinly slice.

I will never forget what happened at a party she had and served the roast at, among other meat dishes, probably a ham and chicken, buffet style. Everybody loved the roast and it very quickly disappeared. She didn't have anymore of the roast and I guess some of the guests had been asking about it. I walked in on her and 1 of my aunts in the kitchen and mother was bitching about everybody taking the roast and not eating the other meats and now she was embarrassed because she didn't have more. I mean she was almost raging about it.
