This is the recipe I am using but will be subbing a good wheat bread.
It was a pain to try and copy the entire thing from my phone, as the one page kept jumping.
So, links are provided.
----------------
-Ingredients-

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus more for toasting bread in the pan

2 tablespoons all- purpose flour

1 pinch nutmeg

1 cup warm milk

4 thick slices white bread

dijon mustard, for spreading

4 ounces ham, sliced, we like black forest but any will do

4 ounces gruyere cheese, sliced

1/4 cup gruyere cheese, shredded

These have got to be the most time consuming - pain in the butt, delicious sandwiches to make.
DIL wasn't wild about the taste of bechamel.. I dropped one on the counter top and basically destroyed the top.

We had tomato soup to go with. Lol

Yes Peeps.
The next time I'm going to try the baked ones that I'd originally planned on Williams Sanoma's website.

I only just heard about this sandwich a year or two ago, and have never made one.

Looks delicious, Sass, so I may give it a try!
