Shore Lunch

I was up in Ontario fishing recently, something I do every couple of years. The warm spring, as well as ruining the cherry crop in Door County, Wisconsin, changed the Ontario water temperatures and there was an early Mayfly hatch which created havoc with the fishing. We would normally catch 20-40 Walleyes a day per person but this year it was closer to 40 Walleyes total per person over a five day time period. Every stomach we opened was packed with the little night flyers. Rats.

I took this picture at night (obviously) and every little white blip is a Mayfly.

A couple of random pix and then lunch:

Last but not least, I caught the biggest Walleye of the week (luck!) at 28"

We were joined this day by a professional photographer - looks like we'll play a small part in an hour long infomercial for Lund aluminum boats....

Looks like y'all had a great time with some good eats. It doesn't get any better than that!

We three old farts grew up as friends, victims of our fathers' passion for wild game hunting. The "kids" include (none mine) a son, son-in-law, and nephew. The melding of generations is a pleasant experience and a great getaway.

Man, that looks like some GREAT Times, and some AMAZING eating!

I would LOVE to have a "frontiersman" weekend! The Fishing, the setting, the cooking. . . man, I just don't think it could get much better than that.

The trout(I think) and Pike look like nice yields. How does the pike eat?

It's been a few years since I've ventured North. We always went up on Labor Day, towing someone's boat behind, and had the place to ourselves for the week AFTER the holiday. Many a shore lunch was had of perch or walleye, followed by a nap before the afternoon fishing. Nice walleye you caught there. That's pretty old for a Northern fish, and not sure it would be as tasty as some of those 15-18" fish. Any smallies where you went, or were you above the continental divide?

Oh, Buzz! Looks like you had a wonderful time! Beautiful photos!

That pan of fresh fish frying is making my mouth water!
