Saturday 15 October dinner

VeraBlue

Head Mistress
I know it's ridiculously early..welcome to my world. I haven't cooked a real meal here in at home in almost two weeks and I've actually got a menu for tonight

First course is oysters rockefeller (it's hugely oyster season around here)
Second course is veal marsala with gnocchi

I am absolutely taking something from the restaurant for dessert.

So, has anyone else considered dinner at this unlikely hour?

A very good morning to you Vera.

I haven't had veal in so long and that sounds so good.

I am hoping to make the split pea soup I had planned (but was put off) yesterday.

Vera, I'll consider dinner after another cup of coffee. At the moment, a loaf of sweet potato bread made with leftover baked squash is in the oven. The aroma filling the house should be inspirational.

We have our granddaughter coming this morning to stay thru Sunday while Mommy & Daddy go to a wedding in Toledo, so it looks like it's going to be some sort of pasta meal to use up the rest of the sauce in the fridge.

Alexa's getting big. Here she is at Target shopping with Mommy...

CG you have inspired me to do some more pickin' and get a batch of apple butter simmering in the crock pot. Best whole house air freshener I know of.

Cyn that sounds like lots of fun. Have a wonderful time.

I have my first loaf of multigrain bread in the bread maker. I hope it turns out good. It will go with a pot of ham and split pea soup.

Joe... God bless the little one. She's precious.
I see she is learning the shopping tactics early.

I remember DD and GD in the shopping cart.

DD would not sit in the seat thing. She used to lay in the cart, and would scream if I stopped pushing. grrrrrrr!!!

GD was a terror in the store. She was one of those kids that ran away....and performed a temper tantrum on the floor if she didn't get what she wanted in candy / cookies / etc.

I think DW took her once...and had to bring her back home for me to watch her. That was it DW said...never again.
At least when it was with our kids...a whack on the Butt was acceptable without DYFS locking up parents.

Geepers...I forgot..??? Hmmm???

I think a nice sirloin steak today with a baked potato.
I can eat it in peace without DW seeing it and wishing she could eat some. ( She is gonna be down the Farm today and tomorrow prepping meals for her uncle)
She can't digest meats well; so I don't eat steak in front of her and tease her.

I've never made chick n dumplings, let alone in the cp. So this will be a new experience for me too (if my breasts defrost in time). I'll give you the links or post the spinach dumplings (in potato soup) & the buttermilk-walnut dumplings for chicken stew when I get back. Gotta run. Thinking a combo of spinach & walnut dumplings might be good too. Never know what I'm gonna do once I get into the kitchen... like a mad scientist Mwahahahaha.

Oh this sounds so good!! I can't wait to hear your review.

BTW the loaf of multigrain bread smells fantastic. My hub and girl can't wait for it to be done.

I have made chic & dumplings for yrs. My Mom used to roll her dough out & make them thin. I don't like that lol I like them big fat & fluffy. By a fluke I found the best recipe ever on the back of the self rising white lily Flour bag.

Fine looking stew, Dan. I'll bet Peeps bread would be delicious to wipe the bowl clean. Mmmmmmmm...

DW changed the menu from pasta to meat loaf, candied carrots & smashed taters. Alexa was loving it, and we never opened up her baby food.

I am now on my second cup of chocolate cappuccino with loads of fresh whipped cream.. :w00t2:

Hi Joe,
More gravy on the potato's please. Alexa's Beautiful. And happy. I know your enjoying this.

dandiamond...the stew looks great. I like the carrots and whatever cut small like that.

Joe.. the meatloaf really is a great comfort food. It looks great, and the carrots sliced thin like that look great.

I didn't do the steak today.

DW had 1/4 lb sliced roast beef she bought Thursday just for me... so I fried up some peppers and onions, and made a Philly Cheese Steak.
It was not as tasty with red peppers. I like the green peppers for taste on a steak sandwich. All the way around, I just like the green bell peppers. IMO

Everything looks and sounds so good! My camera's on the fritz so no pics. I made a HUGE pot of chicken & sausage gumbo (it's good gumbo weather up here!) and then baked some smoked cheddar sausages wrapped in garlic dough w/ my cabbage & apple salad. Good stuff Maynard!! lol

I wish I had some of Peeps bread for my stew.

That looks fantastic Dan. I wish I could send you some bread. I think I will have to make stew really soon.

I want that dinner. I LOVE steak. Potato skins loaded with cheese and bacon OH MY YUMMY.

I love the mocha flavor coffee.

I wish I could have a bit of each meal.

Sorry you weren't happy with your cheese steak Jimmy.

The gumbo and smoked cheddar piggies in the blankets sound great.

I made a new recipe from Food & Wine Magazine last night and it turned out really good. It was browned chicken leg quarters in a red-wine-vinegar/chicken broth/garlic sauce and herbed rice. I also made green bean casserole and toasted some baguette slices for smearing with the softened garlic. Good stuff.
