Obama in Ft. Myers today

Mr. President is hosting a town hall meeting in nearby Ft. Myers today. The surrounding towns of Cape Coral and Lehigh Acres are to the best of my knowledge the hardest hit housing markets in the nation. There are literally blocks on end of unoccupied homes or semi-finished construction. There were to be 1500 tickets available to the public and people were were lined up all night to get them. As it turns out, only 200 got tickets. The rest "somehow" seem to have been given to organizers' and politicians' friends and relatives.

Cripes!

With all the snowbirds and tourists down here this time of the year traffic can be a nightmare. It's bad enough without them because the average age of the locals must be about 97 and they all drive. Apparently they're going to shutdown I75 for awhile during Obama's visit. That ought to stop traffic from Tampa to Ft. Lauderdale. Should be a fun day. I'm not leaving the compound.

Someone should tell him to stay home and quit wasting jet fuel, instead of acting like he's on the campaign trail again. But then again, that's all he's ever known, anyway, is campaigning. Spreading baloney from sea to shining sea.

For all of you who think the stimulus is going to save us, I have a couple of bridges for you to look at...CHEAP!

nothing like a visit from a president to make you day suck... I always wince when somebody "important" is in town.... ARGH motorcades... and forget what the arrival of AF1 will do to the schedue at the airport.... enjoy the tarmac folks

isn't it nice how they preach the economy is so bad and all these people are out of work ... yet instead of sitting in his office trying to figure out ways not to be such a horse's ass and get the Senate and Congress to agree ... we are going to spend more money to fly somewhere to talk to people. you won already dumba$$ ... now go do your job!

sorry ... i hate politicians, republicans and democrats!

He just landed.
He's trying to show compassion, I guess, and a man of the people-like Lincoln.
Lee County is #1 in foreclosures in the country and 10% unemployment.
That's why he picked the 2 towns he did in the last 2 days.
I don't trust a one of 'em, but we'll see.

They're driving him into town via Martin Luthor King Blvd. They ought to stop the motorcade and make Obama walk around the neighborhood. This area is where the majority of the murders, robberies, and drug busts occur. I won't drive down that street without my EDC and a loaded gun because a flat tire could become deadly.

Actually having worked with the White House Advance Team, I have found it to be very exciting and a lot of fun. I like to see our Democracy up close and I don't care who is in office if I get the chance. I respect the Presidency even when I don't respect who is in office at any given time.

I say this as an Independent, not associated with any party.

Contrasting Barry against the Jackass of the last 8 years, well, I'm glad the Moron is gone.

And I know there are those who, had this been McCain doing the exact same thing, there would be those just swooning and pointing out how McCain isn't Shrub V2 because McCain isn't hiding under his desk.

Except McCain was: (CRASH) The state of the U.S. Economy is sound.

It is what it is.

I believe all the face time Obama is giving is an attempt to get everyone pulling in the same direction.

For those who are going to miss the meeting I have tapes of old Soviet propaganda pro-Socialist, anti capitalist days. I'd be more than happy to distribute them. There will be not much difference from what Mr. President is going to be saying there anyway. Oh, yeah, I also love the democracy here and do respect who ever it is in the office. Not that I like last few guys, but I do respect them.

I get these chain eMails with opening lines such as : This is true, Check it out for yourself!

Thing is people read that line and think, golly, what follows MUST be true because they've been encouraged to check it out.

And the implications drawn in the propaganda laden eMail is believed.

I'm PMing you my mailing address, when can I expect your propaganda? I mean, other than your posts.

Let me point out, about old films, how you look at Khrushchev banging his shoe at the United Nations reminds me allot of the Presidency of last 8 years.

Obama is doing a great job at the town hall meeting as usual. There are people there literally begging for help personally. The stimulus bill just passed the Senate but these needy folks will never recover until the business cycle runs its course. The administration has not learned the lessons of history and the cost is going to be near overwhelming. Inflation is eventually going to destroy many more lives.

I stand by the above so strongly that my family and I are taking measures to cut our cost of living by 40%. I do not trust any of these politicians for they have done nothing to earn it.

Here's the article on the ticket fiasco from our local rag. Read the blog at the bottom and see how polarized this place, and this nation, is.

And that in itself is enough for some to not support his efforts.

There needs to be a business cycle for it to run it's course.

Can't bring up the 'business cycle' without bringing up Commercial Paper, $700B, Disappearing $350B, last falls Socialization of banks, around and around it goes.

The administration has not learned the lessons of history and the cost is going to be near overwhelming. Inflation is eventually going to destroy many more lives.
Funny thing about history. For decades, over half a century, F.D.R.s New Deal was a success, some historians say it slowed the slide, some say it stopped the slide, some even say it promoted some growth. There were damn few who would say the new deal is a failure. Lets not forget F.D>R. followed Hoover and Hoovers policies.

Now if you listen to the Rightie talking heads they say the New Deal was a failure.

Funny thing, History.

I stand by the above so strongly that my family and I are taking measures to cut our cost of living by 40%.
Contrast that with people who have gone from well paying jobs to a from hand to mouth existence through no fault of their own in the past 1 ~1.5 years.

Cut cost of living by 40%? Wow. Thats one heck of a safety buffer.

Here's the article on the ticket fiasco from our local rag. Read the blog at the bottom and see how polarized this place, and this nation, is.
Yeah, it's surprising how polarized we are.

I'm a conservative and a centrist who sees the world in many shades of gray and comes under attack from both extremes because I can't see the world in black and white.

Polerization, after Obama was elected I heard Right Wingers calling the recession the Obama Recession. Yes, it is Obamas to try and stop or cure, but the implication was to try to blame Obama for the recession. And you see, I just can't hook up with some-thing/one that stupid.

This thread is quickly going to go down the shitter...........

that being said, I don not like any 1 group having a mojority in govt.

to try and use fear, to ram "porkulus" down our throats and ramming it through gov. without proper oversite is disgustingly scary at best. 70% of the people who are voting on it have no clue whats in it.
I actually herd a guy today say, "get on board with our program, or get out of the way"......last I knew, this was still the United States.
Buzz, I think you're right, we're going to see some really nasty inflation after they ram this spending bill through. Pandoras' box is about to get opened.....and she didn't wash up:yuk:

Barry needs to get his buttox back in the whitehouse..period. Seems he'd rather run around and look like a rockstar.

Wart, You make lough, You are conservative. Huh .... I have not seen or heard any conservative promoting what you are promoting. How in the world 50 billion or was it only 50 million that is included in this pacage, for stem cell research, would affect/help folks who've lost their jobs or houses, etc? Explain that to me, please.

And so far it is only you who's calling president, ok ex-president names. Centrist, common, if you are centrist then I am chinese emperor. But you do not want to hear that. If we do not support Obama we have no idea.

Will see in 4 or 8 years how great this president will be, right now it is only empty talks.

I did not like Bush, so far Obama has not shown anything to like him for either.

And do not bring the Kruschev into this. You know nothing about him and life under him. Unless you are Russian and lived there during his time.

Hmmmm.... I thought Obama's Porkulus Bill was supposed to add jobs to the economy? Seems to be backfiring according to the New York Times article. GM has to get rid of 10,000 jobs in order to meet the government requirements to get the "Free Cheese." Way to go, politicos. You won't be happy until the USA looks like the old Soviet Union. Everyone working for the same wage and nobody pulling their own weight. The almighty government will take care of us. Is euthenasia next for seniors whose medical expenses exceed the "govenment norm?" Oh, wait, that's already occuring. The plan must be working because they are denying payment, which means the poor old folks can't afford to stay alive. Oh, well, one less mouth to feed. Viva Barrack! I'm lining up behind that lady that Obama is giving the car and new kitchen to. Ask & ye shall receive, as long as you give them your vote.

Wart, You make laugh(?)

Always glad to make a chuckle.

You are conservative. Huh

I'm also a Patriot.

... I have not seen or heard any conservative promoting what you are promoting.

I wasn't aware I was actually promoting anything.

There are NeoCons and then there are conservatives.

I'm a conservative, NOT a NeoCon.

My observation has been that those who can't see the world in other than Black and White have trouble grasping that one can be Conservative and a Patriot and NOT a NeoCon.

When can I expect delivery of your Commie Propaganda?

You see,Wart, you are so tipicaly liberal. You are not listening what people are saying, but making an assumptions. You do not have to be a conservative to be a patriot. As the matter of fact you do not have to be democrat to be a patriot. Heck, you do not even have to be law obiding citezen to be a patriot. You can simply be a patrion, no matter what your views on politicks are. There is nothing even wrong to be a comunist and be a patriot American.

Do you speak Russian? Otherwise what's the point. Listen to Obama and NPR reminds om of 70's like nothing else before.

Oy! My mother was an English teacher.

Oct 2008 $700 billion bank bailout

Feb 2009 $838 billion economic recovery plan passed the Senate

Feb 2009 $2 trillion or more - The Treasury rolled out a reworked financial rescue plan on Tuesday worth possibly more than $2 trillion to mop up bad bank assets and revive consumer lending in a bid to stave off a deep recession.

Apr 16th, 2011 $1.5 billion approved for the US Treasury Dept. purchase of printing presses.

This is NOT going to be a fun ride. "The government will pay for my gas and mortgage" my ass.

Your confusing the money GM is getting from TARP with the stimulus package.

They are not the same. From the artical: It has borrowed $9.4 billion so far and is scheduled to receive a third installment of $4 billion as soon as next week.

How could GM have received money in the past from a bill that just passed today and has yet to be signed?

You won't be happy until the USA looks like the old Soviet Union.

You know what?

I was thinking the same thing for the last 8 years.

Viva Barrack! I'm lining up behind that lady that Obama is giving the car and new kitchen to.

First, that's hyperbole, I don't know anyone who actually thinks thats going to happen because Barrys in office.

And Golly, my PITA Red Neck neighbor worked a deal with the land owner for her section 8 payments to go towards purchasing the house. And she did that way before Obama got into office.

BUT, THE RUB: Welfare reciepient using the system to buy a house = BAD but the land owner making profit = GOOD. I guess if I could only see thngs in terms of black or white I would be spinning in circles.

Don't get dizzy!

You got what you got, so suck it up and live with it. Man you guys will bitch about anything, give the guy some time lets see 3 weeks in office. He wasn't my choice either but then neither was the other clown.

I almost feel sorry for the dude...
The 1st time I herd him on TV,,I said Uhoh..this is one charismatic SOB

so much so, that you have people acting like he's the 2nd coming ! They (liberals) have pumped him up so much, that I don't think he can do anything BUT fail..unless he walks on water.
I saw a glimmer of hope from him, when he stepped on Biden's joke making about the swearing in mistake. Unfortunatly, he's got Pilosi in there who's so power hungry to push her personal adgenda, unless he steps on her neck soon he'll just be a traveling cheerleader

Well if I was king for a day I'm sure I could cure all the problems of the world. I'm also sure most of you seem to think the same thing, based on what you post in this regard. Well in all honesty I wouldn't run for public office but you all want to get involved then run for office.

In my case I don't use labels for people as it really depends on what subject we are speaking about. I can be a flaming liberal on some subjects and be a hard core libertarian on other subjects. Some things only government can fix the rest is up to you. I also reserve the right to make up my own mind on what to believe on a given subject and not be dictated to by any party or ideology.

Some things only government can fix the rest is up to you.

Absolutely! We need the federal government for national defense, defend our borders, and collect the taxes necessary to fund it. That's it. Everything else should be kept on the state, local, and personal level. In the 60's and 70's they called it "creeping socialism". Now it's more like sprinting. Keep this up, the USA as we know it is toast.

It is toast already just need to add butter and we are done. Though I disagree with the creeping socialism stuff, you are still free to think it regardless of how wrong headed one is. The only purpose for any government's existance is to provide for the common good of its citizens otherwise you have anarchy. What we need is a new system of picking our leaders at all levels and a smarter better informed citizens that vote on facts not feelings.
