Navarro Vineyards White Wine Sale

I'm a huge fan of Navarro Vineyards in Mendocino County, California (north of San Francisco, west of Sonoma and Napa). I particularly like their whites, which I think offer among the best QPR (Quality/Price Ratio) around. I received an e-mail from Navarro today today regarding a tremendous sale on their 2006 Première Reserve Chardonnay, 2007 Estate Bottled Gewürztraminer, and 2007 Cuvée 128 Sauvignon Blanc, up to 40% off on full cases, a little less on mixed cases or half cases.

I've had all three of the wines, and they are very well worth the price, especially as Navarro is offering shipping at only 1¢ per half or full case. I ordered the mixed case of Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. I would have ordered the Sauvignon Blanc, too, but I still have some in the cellar and we don't drink it as often as we do the other two.

Wine Enthusiast is the only major reviewer to regularly cover Navarro's wines as they are sold only at the winery, on line, and to restaurants. They had this to say about the wines:
2007 Gewurztraminer: October 1, 2008, 92 Points, Editors' Choice: "This is the best dry Gewurz I've ever had from Navarro. It really is bone dry and very high in acidity, two good things, but without richness, the wine would be thin. However, there's an incredible array of peach, lychee, citrus, honeysuckle and vanilla spice flavors. This is the closest to Alsace that California Gewurz gets."

2006 Chardonnay: October 1, 2008, 90 Points: "Very rich and honeyed, a powerhouse Chard oozing with pineapple jam, crème brûlée, and coconut candy flavors. For all its sweet mouthfeel, the wine is dry and crisp in brilliant acidity."

2007 Sauvignon Blanc: November 15, 2008, 90 Points: "Sometimes a Sauvignon Blanc this dry, acidic and low in alcohol can be unbalanced, but this one hits it out of the park. With tastes of citrus zest, white peach, green apple and spice, it's just a beautiful aperitif wine, and also is ideal supporting roast chicken, bruschetta with chevre, and grilled veggies."
The ad says something about offering the deal first to their "Pre-Release Members," which I am, but it's apparently available to anyone.

One thing -- it's still warm in California, so consider paying a bit extra for faster shipping. The 1¢ shipping is by UPS and can take a few days, exposing the wine to damaging heat. Overnight or air shipping is also discounted for the sale; it's only $10 extra per case in California, a bit more if you're farther away from the winery.

In vino veritas!

I really like their Chardonnay.

To have any wine shipped to Ohio is ridiculous.........the taxes are doubled more than anywhere else........

But as I said, shipping is only 1¢, and since you're out of state, they may not charge sales tax.

You can call and find out -- 8 to 6 PDT weekdays, 10 to 6 PDT weekends at 800 537-9463 or 707 895-3686. If you prefer, e-mail at sales@NavarroWine.com or fax 707 895-3647.

...Ohio has some crazy tax laws regarding wine shipments.
So do many states. It's all about the political clout of the distributors who want to protect their monopolies, and those folks who think it's sinful and want to impose their beliefs on the rest of us. Nuts to all of them!
