Letdown Foods

Lillylove made me think of this when she mentioned fajitas for dinner.

Fajitas are what I consider my ultimate "letdown food". As in, it's always a letdown, because no matter how good they taste when you get them they never seem to be able to live up to the smell.

Think of it this way... you go out to dinner and as you sit down, hungry and ready to eat, maybe nibbling on some chips and salsa while you decide, a waiter or waitress goes by with a sizzling order of fajitas for another table. That wonderful smell assaults your senses, ever so briefly, and you realize that you MUST HAVE FAJITAS. So you order them, and as I said... they just CAN'T live up to that smell.

Anyone else ever experience that? With any other type of foods? Just curious.

Curries can be like that with me. The smell is sooo wonderful, but though good don't live up to the aroma.

Not particularly the smell, but Carne Asada... mine never tastes like I think it should.
But ditto on the fajitas smell vs taste, I totally agree!

French onion soup and clam chowder. These are two of the things that I am really good at making. I go out and no matter how fancy the resturant they just don't make it like I do. I'm disappointed EVERYTIME.

Coffee.

I love it, but it ALWAYS smells better than it tastes.

(I drink it black, no sugar).

Steaks for me in restaurants are a very hit or miss item for me! Sometimes I will be craving a good juicy TENDER steak so I will order one, esp a cut I think will live up to my craving and 8 out of 10 times they ruin it somehow! I am not usually one to send back my meal unless I HAVE to, so I usually choke down the meal I was looking so forward to, and mad at myself for not learning my lesson! :(
But I must say when I took my hubby out for his B-day the beginning of the month I made it a point to ask the waitress her opinion on the most melt in your mouth meat dish and she recomended their teriyaki steak (I think it was a NY strip) and OH MAN it was indeed melt in your mouth tender!!! YAY!! I finally got what I was hoping for!! lol

Lee I definately agree with that one!! I rarely find a good cup of coffee in restaurants....yet I order them anyways! lol

Most of my staff is Hispanic. Among them, there are men and women that are really skilled cooks. That said, most chain Mexican restaurants disappoint.
