Learn to tie knots - Animated Knots.com

cool! Paul will love this.

He took a sailing class once and ever since then he's been in to tieing knots.

Thanks Jim. :)

I'm still trying to figure out how to put two ends for a rope together on my 50' flag pole other than a basic knot and duct tape. I'm still looking for a method to hold them together but this site didn't have one at least that I found.

Great site though.

Under fishing - the uni knot. I do a double uni when tying leaders to fishing lines.

Nope won't do what I want but good try. I'm looking for a way to tie both ends of a single rope together into a knot that will be strong enough to hold up with high winds on a 12' x 8' flag. I was thinking a shrink rap might do it but the guy at Lowe's says it won't hold.

How about overlapping the lines and duct taping the crap out of them?

Joe, heres a place that shows how to splice braided and three strand twisted rope

Jim

Could you overlap the two ends and use a hose clamp or 2?

Ideally the splice should be tight enough to run through the sheaves without binding so you don't want anything protruding from the original diameter of the rope.

What I need is a way to spice to ends together into a single piece guys, not tie them off.

Look at page 3 of that PDF under "Short Splice". They have a cool way of joining two ends into one solid piece of rope.
