Terror suspects might end being held only minutes from the Twin Saults, if a concept floated by former Michigan Governor John Engler takes hold.

Engler has proposed using Upper Peninsula prisons - the Kinross Correctional Facility could, presumably, be among them - to house suspected terrorists now incarcerated at Guatanamo Bay, the Detroit Free Press reports.

U.S. President Barack Obama has committed to closing that facility (situated on the southeast end of Cuba) within a year.

No new locations for the detainees have been identified yet.

i do live in Canada... i live in Sault Ste Marie,Ontario.... then right across the Bridge is Sault Ste Marie,Michigan..we are called the twin Sault's...or the sister cities... Kinross is about 25 miles from my house
 
According to the article, the former Governor is just performing "sphincter talk," because nobody in the current administration is remotely interested in the idea. As a matter of fact, Obama has not been able to find a country, much less a state, interested in taking these detainees. I thought he had all this figured out and everyone lined up to shut down Gitmo. That's what he said when he was campaigning. He was going to shut it down and send everyone to a better place where they could eat fillet mignon and sleep on feather matresses while they plot the overthrow of the free world. Nothing too good for the terrorists.

Why doesn't he open a facility in Chicago next to ACORN HQ (God knows they have plenty of money now with their stimulus check.), or build a retreat facility at Camp David so he can have them close by to make sure they don't get bullied by those meanie guards. I mean, if there guys are not really a big threat like he said, why all the angst over a site?
 
This new administration is a JOKE, smoke and mirrors thats all this is. At the end of the day, Quantanamo Bay will be open for years to come... Will wager 1 bottle of rum on this one....
