Thanks to Leolady who helped me find a new one at auction instead of the used one in good quality that I had my eye on, I have finally purchased one of my holy grails. For years, I have sought out the copper liner mixing bowl for my kitchen Aid mixer and now it is mine! I am so excited, I could do a happy dance!!!!!:bouncy::dancing::dancing:
See.

:oops:I forgot to tell you that you WILL love your copper bowl liner, cause you will be amazed at how high your egg whites will peak using it! This liner combined with a KA mixer is the BOMB!!!

For the benefit of others on the forum, the bowl liner is used like this:

But..........to keep you from getting the big head over your new acquisition, :yum:let me show you this:

Nope!

This is a bowl that was made in France but designed and sold by Bridge Kitchenware Corp. in NYC from about 1969 or so until about 2003 or so when they were discontinued.

They stopped making them because as with the bowl inserts they were no longer in demand cause KA started making the larger mixers and they sold better.

I bought mine when I called the company in November 2004 and found out that they were marked down from 189.00 to 114.00 plus shipping. There were only 3 left in stock when I bought mine.

That looks great (I don't have a KA mixer though), but why does it make your eggs whites peak better? Something to do with the copper?

Leolady, you are a sweetie for helping Pie Susan score a new copper liner. I bought a lightly used one for cheap, but had to drive 160 miles round trip to pick it up. They really do make beautiful meringues. And yes, something to do with the way copper reacts with egg white.

There is a used one in excellent condition on ebay currently. I was considering that one until leolady showed me the new one. I have no idea why it did not turn up in my search.

So, yes dear lady--we do share a love of antique kitchen equipment and no, I don't mind your adding to the thread. Your copper find was fantastic! It not only is beautiful but very functional.

I agree as I have a cooper bowl I use for hand beating my egg whites. It really does make a big difference and it has something to do with a chemical reaction between the egg white and cooper.

I did wind up spending more than I expected but it is only money and I will have this forever and I actually bake fairly often. And it is brand new! Yes, I am good at justifying my hobbies' expenses! lol

I don't bake at all but occasionally do make deserts using meringues either folded in or as a topping. Though I have a KA stand mixer I usually do like I was taught by my grand mother, copper bowl, a whisk and elbow grease.

:sad:I don't have those hard sexxy man muscles, or any muscle at all for that matter, so all that beating was making me sick!:puke1:

Now I keep the big heavy copper hand mixing bowl on the wall where it can at least look pretty, and use the mixer. Why didn't I think of it before?:bonk:

They should hire a few of us hardcore appliance sleuths to work for the CIA. We'd root out the answers in no time. Leo has a gift for finding the unobtainable and a nose for a bargain. My Appalachian grandpa would always warn us "watch out for the Gypsies" and to prove the point, kept his billfold in his shirt pocket secured by a huge safety pin. I never knew what a gypsy was or what it was I was looking out for, but when it comes to all things Kitchenaid and Leo, better put a safety pin on your wallet. She can find anything!

She was so sweet to help me. This was on my list of holy grails. To find a brand new one is remarkable. She has a gift but I have been pretty lucky on ebay. I found an old candymaking pamphlet going back to 1909 that a church has been using for just about as long. This is a local church built on candy money. I use to volunteer and help out the candy circle twice a year. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot, expecially that little old ladies have bawdy senses of humor! lol

lol, Actually, I have learned that I enjoy having things to aspire towards. I don't ever hope to get everything. It is wonderful to have something to look forward to. I have been chipping away at my wish list over many, many years. Unfortunately, the toys are getting more and more expensive.

Well it is true the pro cook has what he needs and the home cook has everything. But then I'm a home cook ad working on getting it all. :respect:

I have a nice, big copper whisking bowl, too. Copper candy/jelly pot as well. The home cook ends up having everything because he (I) starts out with what is affordable, then works his way up to what is not. I also don't know what I don't need until I have one.

Well, if no one outbids me in one day and 11 hours, I will have won my second auction for a used but in excellent condition ka copper liner mixing bowl.

It is so odd, for ages I couldn't find even one and now, I am going to have perhaps two. I wonder if people are selling them because of the downturn in the economy and need the money.

Thankfully, I am outbid and shall have only one but there is still time to bid and it is only $63. and change for an excellent condition used one.

I'm glad you got one...the copper insert bowls are getting scarcer...people are keeping them. I don't usually find them on eBay these days, so two at the same time is a party. And they really are nice. Work beautifully, and they're a bit of history now.

In today's economy people are buying less, even on Ebay. I think that is being reflected in prices being lower now. We have less competition during bidding IMHO.

I agree. I have been disappointed only twice by e-bay purchases. Once, a brand new book came with a black dot on it--fine for me, but not to gift like I had planned. The other time, the book came crushed because it had not been packaged correctly. The first time, I did nothing and bought a new copy at the local bookstore for my friend and kept the marred book. The second time, the merchant cancelled the order and let me keep the book. He didn't want a book that was crushed either.
