If you were given a personal chef, would you still cook?

say you won a contest where a professional chef does your food shopping and cooks you and your family's meals, would you still want to cook? how often?

would you go shopping for ingredients with the chef? would you like to help the chef so you could learn new dishes and techniques?

would you still want to cook some meals, but let the chef cook most of them? or would you sit back and be pampered?

Sorry, I'm too self sufficient to entertain thoughts of hired help, even if they work for free. You can have him/her for yourself.

I'd spend time learning new things. Sounds like a free culinary school to me. I'd have to sharpen his knives though, because they'd be like crap for sure.

no apologies necessary, joe.

you really wouldn't want him or her to cook ANY meals for you? not even once a week, like on a weekend or something? yup, that's very self sufficient.

lol, buzz. if we make it to florida this fall, i'll bring my knives, and i'll cook...

q, yes, doing the dishes (with the aid of a dishwashing machine, of course) is part of the deal as far as i'm concerned.

i guess i should have answered my own question to start. since i don't have the time - working 60 to 70 hours a week on average, and my family loves to eat out (we eat out or get take out about 3 to 4 times a week as it is), i would have the chef cook breakfast every morning, and dinner about 5 or 6 days a week. i'm almost never home for lunch, so those would be up to dw.

i would still want at least 1 day to cook just because i enjoy it, and i would definitely be right there in the kitchen watching every step, helping out when needed or asked.

i thought that this was an interesting question and it would get some good responses on a site like this where almost all of the members cook almost every day, and really do it out of creative enjoyment and the nourishment of their loved ones.

Don't need it and would probably turn it down. I enjoy the time my wife and I spend in the kitchen together in the evenings as I find it very relaxing for both of us.

I would still want to cook, but I would NOT want to go shopping for the ingredients (grunt work) :). I would love to cook alongside the professional chef to learn new dishes/techniques, but when I was in the mood to do my own thing, he/she would be "my" prepper and clean-up person , which would probably piss him/her off "big time". I love to cook, but I really love to cook when someone else does all the prep and clean up. So does my husband, so we switch off most of the time.

Since I cook every day without break, I would fully take advantage of that situation for as long as it lasted.
But then I don't know what I'd do with myself at night. I'd find something to do.

I'd sell him on Ebay.

i 2nd that motion..lol

seriously though, i get more out of cooking than just eating, its a way for me to relax and to show a create of side of sorts. i am well an ass when it comes to other people cooking especially in my kitchen or on my cooking vessels..lol

i personally think somebody cooking for me would get old really quickly and i would still want to cook each day.

For the first few weeks... I'd sit back and let him do it all. I'd watch.

Then I'd start to miss being in the kitchen and tell him to come once a week when I was
too busy or out of ideas on what to make.

:) when is he coming I could use someFelet Mignon with crab and wild mushrooms bout now!!

I would absolutely love to come home to someone cooking dinner for me!! But, I'd give that chef the weekend off. I enjoy cooking on Friday, Saturday and Sunday too much to give it up.

Nope! It just seems too weird to think of someone in MY kitchen cooking with MY stuff. Besides, I'd feel weird walking into my kitchen at 0500 in my boxers and wife-beater when someone else is cooking there. I'd have to change my casual lifestyle to something a bit more formal while he/she was in the house. It just would not work for me. You can have my turn, I'll just watch.:yum:

I would love to just be able sit down for a nice dinner every night except for maybe on Sunday's. My son and I enjoy cooking on Sunday afternoons.

I LOVE to have her make breakfast for me every day and pack me a lunch to take to work!

As for dinners, when I felt like it, I'd be working along side of her, to learn new things, but I'd relish the pampering sometimes, too!

Great question, BT!

I would enjoy chef-prepared meals during the week, including Fridays, but on weekends especially, I like to cook dinner, since I have plenty of time. When I felt like it, I'd like to help, to learn new things.

I would tend to think I would trade his/her services for a massage therapist, or a personal trainer which is what I need more.

Edit to add, if it was Giada I would be all over it.
You dog! I completely forgot there was a choice as to who the chef would be. When you're done with her, I'll send a limo to take her to the airport for her flight to my casa in a private jet. I, also, am a dog!:yum::yum::yum:

If you look at when I made my post her show was on. Had to do some quick re-thinking.

i wouldn't let a personal cook into my kitchen. culinary school was too much money. :) plus i love food too much, even if i am a skinny bitch.

I might enjoy doing something like Emeril Green for a day but long term no. I do enjoy cooking too much myself but always welcome new ideas on ingredients as well as food combinations.

I'm sure the Chef and I would become great friends, sharing ideas and such. I'm not the type of person to have someone waiting hand and foot on me, but I think it would be fun....at least for a while.

I would definately want the Chef to be well educated in many cultures of food, I definately couldn't eat Italian every night. :twak: lol

My first impulse was to ask what nationality your wife was......but that would be in such bad taste;), no pun intended...so I won't ask, hahahaha. But you get the point, yes???

For instance, right now I have a French craving...just got over a Japanese craving.....could be headed for an Italian craving. lol
